Thanks for sharing and all those pushing the medium. It is worth noting that DJ Steve Dee of the X-Men made great advancements in the art of “juggling” two turntables to create tempo/beat changes.

He didn't create it. The British DJ Cutmaster Swift, who won the DMC World Title in 1989 created it, and Steve copied it. Swift went to New York in '88 and '89, to compete in the old New Music Seminar battle, and he was filmed juggling, in the apartment of a DJ called Clarke Kent, and he later showed the video to Steve. There's a channel on here called HBS Music Archaeology, that did an interview with Swift's crew-mate DJ Bizness, who explains the whole thing.

This story seems to forget the firsts of them : Pierre Schaeffer (and Pierre Henry) who were the pionners of concret music, i.e. of a music made from turnables, used as instruments at the and of forties. It was just at the end of the second world war... before Cage and the followers. Etudes de bruits, Symphonie pour un homme seul, etc

This is a bizarre documentary, considering it doesn't feature any clips of DJ battles. Does the maker of the documentary even know they exist? One of my favourite clips is of the British DJ, DJ Woody, performing at the 2003 ITF World Final. I recommend everyone watch it.

So I take it you know nothing about DJ battles either? Watch the video I mentioned above, and you'll see that battles are also about what the turntable can do OTHER than just play records.

@@j-boogiebrown9961 pretty sure the point is that there are dozens, if not hundreds of videos about DJing & that kind of turntablism. it would be hard for anyone into music to not know about that part of the music world. on the other hand, i guarantee most people that see this have never seen most of these things before. I'm sure you can easily find documentaries, performance videos & DJ battles alll over youtube talking about & showing the styles&people you are bringing up. Much less light is shined on this stuff & there's absolutely no reason not to let it get some light.

I'm a bit confused that turntablism is not beeing mentioned in this video. Titeling a video "The turntable as instrument" and not mentioning turntablsim even once is like making a video featuring people that are using violins as drum sticks and then titeling it "The art of playing the violin". Nothing against this experimental type of turntable music. But if someone totally new to this topic watches this video, they would miss a very important part. They would think that making music using a turntable is always very random and noisy. They wouldn't know that there is/was this rich culture around the turntable as musical instrument. They wouldn't know that one can play concrete drum patterns, melodies and more using a turntable and a mixer.

Whoah.. It's not like turntableism didn't rise hip hop. This artist has not just done what... So many have done. But created it! Hell the end of record in a song... No ones ever put that in a song. Such innovators, just a bunch of artists spouting stuff thats always been around and trying to go "So new and innovative". Artists not musicians.
