I think this is about a person who's in deep depression. S/he is very pessimistic about everything happening around him/her. S/he is not ready to accept help, though s/he needs it. Dragonate2 _ Well, I think, instead of style of music, Roots is more of "Hey, I tried something, and it didn't work, so I'm not going to do it anymore." I know, it could also apply to the style of music, but it may also be about a personal life philosophy, about a way to look at life. When I felt really low, I sat myself down and just thought about life, and the way my existence affects everyone else. I didn't particularly like life very much at that point, so I just decided to change my perspective. You know, how a person takes off black sunglasses and wears amber ones, and suddenly the world is bathed in yellow instead of gray? And changing my perspective helped me change my mood, and eventually, I began to love life a whole lot more. Maybe what this song is trying to say is something similar. The writer tried a new perspective, but it ended up putting him even lower than what he used to be. Or, alternatively, it could be interpreted going back to a hometown, or a childhood home or to people who raised the writer. Running back to the comforts of childhood to escape the complications of adulthood ... In the end, I always read too much into literature, especially song lyrics. So don't mind me. But anyway, songs can be interpreted any way the listener chooses to. It's all in what a person is thinking, or in what mood the person is, when they listen to the song. This song in particular, though, carries waves of escapism for me.
