Seeing as tom stoltman is the world’s strongest man, that’s right the strongest man in the world is Scottish, so basically that must mean we are the strongest country in the world, yeah am pretty sure that’s how it works. I’ve decided to explore the history of the dinny stones.

I can tell you who found the stones. David Webster and Alex Thomson ran the Spartan Club in Aberdeen. A weight lifting and body building gym. David Webster is famous for writing about weight lifting and strongmen through the ages. David, Alex and a couple of other Spartan club members went to Potarch to find the stones. The stones you see today were at the far at end of the hotel garden down near the River Dee. They had to use a wheel barrow to move them as there were no handles.. David Webster got a blacksmith to make the handles we see on the stones today. They are crudely made and I personally feel the original hoops would have been similar to ones you see on many Granite stone bridges in Scotland. They would be made from 1/2 inch steel in a perfect 6 inch circle. These stones may or may not be the original stones Donald Dinnie lifted. They just happened to be 2 stones that had been used on the bridge construction. The only evidence that Dinnie lifted the stones is a letter written by his father stating that Donald carried them the width of the bridge. Many legends grow arms and legs of over the years. So, did a 210 lb man carry over 700 lbs a distance of 17 ft?

Just watched Loz beat the world record. Yeah c’mon Tom and Luke. Get in there. Make next year’s event into a biggie. Brian, Loz and the brothers… I’d swim over from Australia to see that.
