Subhan Allah What an incredible piece of advice by Imam Al Ghazali Rahimahullah There is so much unnecessary emphasis these days on things that fall under the domain of acceptable differences of opinion because the scope of legitimate differences within Sunni mainstream normative Islam is wide enough to accomodate a plethora of opinions we know.

About Professor Javed Ahmed Ghamidi, he can be right or wrong but his level of tolerance and morals are commendable and example for every scholar of this era and should follow suit, I not only believe that there is no scholar of his stature profundity of religious thought and precision of its understanding and lucidity of his articulation in the Muslim word, but I also believe that I have yet to see anybody more profound just and humane than Professor Javed Ahmed Ghamidi sahib, when it comes to commentary on social issues including human rights. May Allah bless his countless blessings upon Ghamdi sb! Ameeeeeen. ( USTAAD MOHTARAM MAY YOUR SEED PROSPER GOD WILLING)

Javed Ahmed Ghamidi has no ijazah and he is a person who has rejected the Salaf and accepted the doctrines of the West. Does Allah(swt) give us rights, is good and evil determined by Allah or is it determined by the West? Javed Ahmad Ghamidi denies the authenticity of the variant readings [qirā’at] of the Quran besides Hafs despite the fact that ten qirā’at reach us through the highest levels of authenticity [tawātur]. This view of his is also contrary to authentic narrations in Bukhari, Muslim and other hadith collections that confirm the Quran was revealed in seven “categories of differences” [ahruf] around which the differences of these qirā’at revolve. These ahādīth in terms of their meaning also reach the level of highest level of authenticity due to a large number of narrators reporting it [tawātur]. [v] See Fatwa # 29583 for a detailed explanation: askimam.org/public/question_detail/29583 *Javed Ahmed Ghamidi states that Isa (alayhi al-salam) has passed away. This is contrary to the authentic view that Isa (alayhi al-salam) is alive and is verified both by the tafsir of the relevant verses and authentic ahādith that state Isa (alayhi al-salam) will descend on the Earth once again as a just ruler. These ahādith also reach the level of highest level of authenticity due to a large number of narrators reporting it [tawātur] as confirmed by Ibn Kathir in his tafsir and other latter-day scholars such as Mawlana Anwar Shah Kashmiri, Mufti Muhammad Shafi and the hadith expert Shaykh Abd al-Fattah Abu Ghuddah (may Allah have mercy on all of them). [vi][vii] *Javed Ahmad Ghamidi states that it is not obligatory to keep a beard and “keeping a beard is no directive of religion.” This is contrary to the authentic view that it is wajib for a Muslim male to grow a beard. For comprehensive proof of the obligation of keeping a beard see Fatwa #16493: www.askimam.org/public/question_detail/16493

Abu Hanifa , is your shaykh forget about salafiyya today what did he said?(Abu Haneefah) The statements of the Salaf (righteous predecessors) about affirming the attribute of ʻuluww are many. For instance, Shaykhul-Islam Abu Ismaaʻeel Al-Ansaari said in his book Al-Farooq with a chain of narration up to Muteeʻ Al-Balkhi that he asked Abu Haneefah about the person who says, 'I do not know whether my Lord is in the heaven or on the earth.' He (Abu Haneefah) said, 'He has committed kufr (disbelief), because Allaah says (what means): {The Most Merciful (Who is) above the Throne established.} [Quran 20:5], and His Throne is above seven heavens.' He further asked Imaam Abu Haneefah, 'What if he says, 'He is above the Throne but I do not know whether the Throne is in the heaven or on the earth.'' Imaam Abu Haneefah replied, 'He is kaafir (a disbeliever) because he denies that He is in the heaven. Whoever denies that He is in the heaven has committed kufr.' Another narrator added, 'Because Allaah is above the highest heaven, and He is supplicated upwards not downwards (i.e. people raise their heads towards the heaven and stretch their hands upwards towards Allaah).'” [Sharh Al-ʻAqeedah

This quote of Imam Abu Hanifa (Allah have mercy on him) is misunderstood by some, and incorrectly used to prove that the Imam believed in affirming a direction and location for Allah! The reality is that Imam Abu Hanifa was amongst the very early Muslims (salaf), and his position was in harmony with the mainstream popular opinion of that time - which is ultimate tafwid, as it is clear from his statements quoted earlier; such as, “If He [Allah Most High] was in need of sitting or settling [on the Throne], then before the creation of the Throne, where was He Most High?” as seen in Fiqh al Absat. As a matter of fact this quotation is also from Fiqh al Absat. However, the Imam was also against figurative interpretation of the mutashabihat texts, and firm on the position of consigning the meaning to the knowledge of Allah. As such, followers of Imam Abu Hanifa and commentators of his works have explained what he meant by the above text. They state that the reason why Imam Abu Hanifa declared a person who says these two phrases a disbeliever is because they contain attributing a direction and location for Allah. (See: Isharat al-Maram min Ibarat al-Imam, p: 168) Imam Izz al-Din ibn al-Salam says that the reason why Imam Abu Hanifa declared such a person a disbeliever is that by using such words, one suggests a place for Allah; and whosoever believes that Allah has a place is an anthropomorphist. (Minah al-Rawd al-Azhar fi sharh al-Fiqh al-Akbar P: 115) Imam Abu Hanifa’s intention is not to prove that the heavens and the Throne are places for Allah, and the clearest evidence for this is the aforementioned saying of the Imam himself, “If He [Allah Most High] was in need of sitting or settling [on the Throne], then before the creation of the Throne, where was He Most High? In effect, He is transcendent of all of this.” Mulla `Ali al-Qari al-Hanafi (d. 1014 AH) said in Sharh al-Fiqh al-Akbar (p. 180): “One must not pay any attention to what the innovators imagine on rational bases, and the commentator of al-Tahawi’s `Aqida [i.e. Ibn Abi al-`Izz in Sharh al-`Aqida al-Tahawiyya (p. 195)] committed a mistake in this regard when he said: `Can any vision be rationally conceived without face-to-face encounter? And in it there is a proof for His elevation (`uluw) over His creatures.’ It seems that he applies the upward direction to his Lord, whereas the doctrine of Ahl al-Sunna wa al-Jama`a is that He - exalted is He - is not seen in any direction! The Prophet’s - Allah bless and greet him - saying: `You shall see your Lord just as you see the moon on the night it is full’ [from Abu Hurayra by al-Tirmidhi (hasan gharîb) and Abu Hanifa in his Musnad and, in a slightly different wording, from Jarir ibn `Abd Allah al-Bajali by al-Bukhari and Muslim] is a simile (tashbîh) between two types of sightings generally not a simile between two objects of vision from every perspective.”
