Funny! As I’m watching this today, a facebook notification popped up on my screen that it’s Vibeke Toft’s birthday, about 30 seconds before he said her name. I also love that Nina said “Old School,” because I’ve always thought her dancing has the purity of movement that reminds me of McColl and Ballas.

Saving History. Wow funny, we only just spoke on another video about dancers that are earthy, grounded and naturally rhythmical. You noted 3 couples that you like and I do too. I would most definitely add T&N and also Umberto Guidino and Louise Heise in that list. My favourite couples have all split or no longer compete in the last 2 years. I hope I'm not a bad luck charm on them but it's so not fair. I was a big fan and I will look forward to seeing these two back on the floor very much.

@@joetesta8754 LOL yes! I do absolutely love Timur and Nina and Umberto and Louise. I didn’t list them though simply because I thought Nina had a new partner? And I can’t seem to find anything on Umberto and Louise since like 2018?? So I don’t know what’s going on with them. Another couple I’m a big fan of, even if they’re not the most earthy, is Armen & Svetlana. Not the tightest grip to the floor, but oh my gosh does Svetlana Gudyno make “statuesque” look amazing! I actually think that’s where the next “big couple” of Dancesport is taking us. Shirley Ballas grounded the world, Michael & Joanna redefined the concept of speed and inertia, Riccardo and Yulia gave us the perfect balance between grounding and line. I could see someone like Louise Heise or Svetlana Gudyno redefining and modernizing the Montez/Curtis, Alan/Hazel, and Burns/Fairweather days of statuesque lines in latin dancing. Just a thought I had while watching old dance videos and realizing how everything comes full circle.

@@SavingHistory The last I heard Umberto and Louise were involved in some stage and television work on SYTUCD. Other than that I've not heard of anything. I heard that in part anyway they became frustrated and disillusioned with the competitive scene because judges were championing the dynamic athletic styles over artistry which like T&N is what they brought to the floor. I wont say too much about Armen and Svetlana but whilst there are aspect that are mesmerising there are a few things I dislike alot. They are too much about sport and too little about dance. She's to over adorned with no real floor personality other that pasted on huge smile and there's little chemistry. They are superbly trained, polished and rehearsed athletes, but dance as though they have a business arrangement. Too over crafted for me and they've never won me over completely but I do get why many like them alot.

@@joetesta8754 I get that. I did not initially respond to them - but more that they completely grew on me. The emphasis on sport suits their particular brand of dance, and at the end of the day, I feel every dancer has to find what works for them. Even if everyone on the floor had perfectly even technique, there would still only be one winner, and it would almost always be whichever dancer’s body displays the technique best - whose knees hyperextend the furthest, whose arms are perfectly proportioned to their legs for the visual quality of the line - and body-type is not always in the dancer’s control. So, everyone has to learn the technique, and then develop it so that it expresses who they are as dancers personally. And for those whose knees don’t hyperextend, like Svetlana Gudyno, she has developed something few other dancers have, which is why the eye goes to them. Will it be enough to put them at the top of the world standings some day??? It just depends on which direction Dancesport goes next. None of the world-dominating champions looked like those who came before them - each bringing a new aspect to the dance world - and I can see Dancesport trends moving away from the Riccardo Yulia look - which no one will ever be able to do like she did, and moving instead towards an area where someone new can bring something different, which everyone else will try and copy.

@@SavingHistory You give compelling reason for you support of A&S and you're right, every champion brings something different to the one before. Most sports evolve over time. It's the very nature of competition that requires change. My view is that at what point is too much too much. If you are going to call it dancing then it needs to fit the definition and more and more these dancers are producing and being rewarded for a style which doesn't reflect the music they are moving to. By sheer definition that's not dancing. A&S is one couple that dance brilliantly to timing but almost totally ignore the melody and mood of the music rhythmically. for me they are too mechanical and lack good interaction and spontaneity with reach other and with the music. When I see such disconnect between the dancer and the music I switch off and its game over for me Latin dance or any dance for that matter has always been about more than who is fastest, stronger A dancer not only needs to display all those physical skills but must also be able to take me on a journey and touch me emotionally. There are very few that can do both really well imo. Different opinions are good and clearly we see A& S differently but at least we agree on all the others.

Edera Gulpe Because Timur got married, it was not the reason for the couple's separation .. Timur had his five-year contract expired and it was not renewed ... The club preferred that Nina dance with her boyfriend, since Nina and her boyfriend Evgeny have German citizenship and that suited the Bremen club !! ..
