She is saying wash your locs every other month is gross to me because all the oil that is put on the scalp 2 to 3 times week plus there is dust & dirt flying in the air I shampoo my locs every 1 to 2 weeks I been locked for 5 years now not everyone wants to leave their hair dirty for 2 months our scalp needs to be clean in order for hair to grow
@ImaniGoodridge Жыл бұрын
I personally wash my hair every 1-2 weeks. Definitely do what works for you! I’d just like to air on the side of acknowledging that everyone has different hair care needs & regimens. For example, some people don’t add any oils at all to their hair so they may not wash their hair as frequently. I could probably go on & on about other reasons because there is so much nuance that has to be considered when discussing hair. What she’s saying isn’t meant to be taken as law. It’s just an opinion. The goal of sharing content like this isn’t meant to say there is only one right way to do something. It’s to share perspective. It allows people to take what resonates with them & leave the rest.

This loctician seems very knowledgeable. I agree with most of what she has said except washing your hair often . I have dandruff and need to wash weekly or biweekly at least. Everyone’s scalp and hair is different. We all need to do what works best for our hair and scalp. Different textures, thickness and scalp issues will need different ways to treat your hair/scalp.

En Toi beauty/ Pauline who is a locticion and teaches classes says to wash often to encourage your hair to lock. Also advises that you spray your loc’s with sea salt to encourage loc’s to mature. I wash and dry my loc’s with the RevAir. I find that the RevAir helps my loc’s stretch and contract which tightens the loc matrix to mature faster.

Thanks for sharing! I'm always of the thought that there is no one way to do something especially when it comes to hair. Everyone's loc needs may be different due to allergies, hair type, geographic location, work-life balance, lifestyle, etc. Always do what works best for you! I recently got my RevAir (link for those interested myrevair.com/products/q4do2023?irclickid=SlMzKJRXcxyPRhPUFDXXR3DBUkFSHpVAEy7wRE0&irgwc=1&) & am absolutely loving it. Since I'm 15 years sisterlocked, I particularly like that it dries my hair in exponentially less time than a standard hair dryer. It's great to hear other loc'd individuals enjoying their experience with it. That's so interesting to hear that you've found that it helps with locing hair faster. Will add that to my list of pros when suggesting it to others! :)

I Sisterlocked in 2008 and I had them for almost 5 years until I experienced postpartum shedding and I decided to big chop. The thing I loved the most about my Sisterlocks was the freedom. I followed my consultant's instructions when I was newly established and when my locs were settled I washed them whenever I pleased and I use the Sisterlocks moisturizing spray and then later the Wave Nouveau Moisturizing finishing mist on my locs and that worked for me. On my scalp back then I used Oyin Handmade Burnt Sugar Pomade or their Whipped Shea or Carol's Daughter Healthy Hair Butter. My loss were light and fluffy and I never struggled with buildup or slippage. I will be be getting my second set established this weekend and I cant wait.

Interesting video! I have had sisterlocks for 8 years, and I have done my own reties nearly the entire time. I think I had the lady do 3 reties, and then I took over. My locs are down to my butt now, and I will need to cut them soon before I start sitting on them. I love this hairstyle.

Your locs sound beautiful! You & I have been self-retightening for a similar amount of time (I'm going on 9 years). Retightening with Julia was a treat to myself that I plan to indulge in biannually if my hectic travel schedule allows.

love Julia. Appreciate the tips. I’m one of the Sisterlockers who has thinning at the crown. A black dermatologist told me to use men’s Rogaine. I’ve been using it over a year now, but still have a thin crown. For me it’s a couple of things. My hair is naturally thin, it’s genetic ,, menopause and I’m take meds. I keep my scalp oiled and massaged so it won’t thin any further. I’ll make sure to pay lots of attention to my scalp rather than the hair per Julia’s advice. Thanks for sharing. Both of your locks are beautiful!

10 months into my second set of sisterlocks and I NEVER thought to do a hot oil treatment. I do oil my scalp (just the scalp) but I definitely will start doing hot oil treatments and shampooing once a month before my retightenings.

She has great information!! when it comes to shampooing i feel people should do what works for their scalp. Like me i have eczema of the scalp & my locs/scalp works best if its washed every week or two weeks & for my sister she can go alot longer without washing her locs like a month sometimes two if she had to 😂& my mom is in the middle like every 3 weeks.

My hair is MADE for locs and lovesss water. As soon as I add WATER my hair loc’d in 2 mos. I am on my 2nd set bc I bleached the crap out of my previous set and eventually cut them. I will say my mistake when bleaching my locs is not using NEUTRALIZING shampoo each time. So eventually whatever bleached I didn’t fully rinse out, that was embedded in my thick locs, slowly ate away at my locs.

This was sooo informative. Thank you both for this. I’m dealing with some pp hair and a touch of psoriasis. So i will definitely try the hot oil treatment and see a dermatologist before I try to start them. I’m overseas so I don’t have access to a stylist that does micro locs but I’m sure I could learn how to start them. Hopefully I can see a dermatologist soon. Again thanks so much and it just motivated me to reach out so I can begin the loc journey. 🫶🏾❤️ yalls hair is beautiful by the way!

This was nice and informative. I realize I've been treating my loc'd hair like relaxed hair way too much. Not colouring my hair is gonna be a struggle, when I go grey I'll stop 🙈. I'm really going to have to do less with my hair. Not wetting my hair is gonna be a struggle tho. I use rose water throughout my shaft a couple times a week, so I'm hoping the hot oil treatments can give me what I need
@ImaniGoodridge Жыл бұрын
I, too, used to spray water on my hair a couple times a week! I found that increasing my omega 3s (also known as healthy fats) in my diet also has helped with my hair dryness from within. And unpopular opinion: dye your hair as many times as you’d like! We only have one life. If thick hair is not above your priority to have dyed hair, just do it in moderation and enjoy 😊
