Okawauchiyama, the village of secret kilns
Imari City, Saga Prefecture, is the hometown of Imari ware, a traditional craft that has been around since the Edo period.
Okawauchiyama is where the Nabeshima clan, who ruled this area, placed their official kiln.
A checkpoint was set up at the entrance, and even defective products were not allowed to escape.
The techniques were protected under a strict secrecy.
Okawauchiyama was a secret village under strict surveillance by the Saga Nabeshima clan.
The porcelain made here is called "Nabeshima" after the clan name, among Imari ware.
It was mainly used as a gift for daimyo and shoguns, and is still loved by many collectors.
The beautiful scenery is also attractive!!
Okawauchiyama is surrounded by landscapes that look like landscape paintings, and rows of houses that strongly retain the atmosphere of the good old Edo period remain.
Imari ware is used all over the city, including bridges, clocks, and city maps, so you can enjoy walking around the city as if you were visiting an Imari ware gallery. Many kilns still use traditional techniques, so you can enjoy shopping for Imari ware while you're walking around. 1848 Okawauchicho Otsu, Imari City, Saga Prefecture, 848-0025 VOICEVOX: Kyushu Sky #Imari #Kyushu #Breathtaking views #Travel #Okawauchiyama #Imari ware #Arita ware #Nabeshima ware #arita ware #japantravel #japantrip JAPAN in 4K
