100000 Muslims celebrate Eid el-Fitr in Northwestern China / Xining Day 2

On our second day in Xining we had the opportunity to attend the Eid el-Fitr prayer. Eid el-Fitr is the festival that is celebrated after the end of Ramadan. There were hundreds of thousands of people praying together peacefully in the streets of Xining. What a wonderful experience! Except that there was no prayer space for women!!! That sucked.

First mosque was built in China in 742 AD by the visiting trade merchants. Islam has been in China well before Christianity. I think the Chinese government only have problems with Uyghur people from Northwest China. That part of the region has a lot of natural resources and occupied by Uyghurs the turk decendants.
