Chai Choy Saetern is performing a traditional Iu Mien chant to welcome and bless the coming Lunar New Year. Chanting is fast becoming a lost art as our people are assimilating and relinquishing our culture, so please enjoy this gem!
Mr. Seng Fo Chao from Portland, Oregon has graciously translated the chant into English and Iu Mien languages.

1. The old year is gone and the new year is here - may the bright star return to shine on all of us with peace. May every family be at peace, goes into the city and out of the county with blessings.
2. May all the adults and children - male and female - be at peace, young and old be happy. May children gain wisdom in school, and be famous officials in the future.
3. May the middle age people get married with perfect blessings in life. May they be profitable in business and other gains in whichever direction they make. May the men accumulate wealth/money and the women profit. One hand holds gold and the other holds silver.
4. May the future generations be blessed with long life, live ten thousand years. The first class of three thousand and five hundred years will be added to their life.
5. May the host (IMCS) of this great celebration be blessed with great blessings, so others will have them as their leaders. The leaders have set up our Iu Mien community for the future generations to carry on.
6. May the old open the way for the young to walk on; the old build up the cities for the young to expand. Please build up our Iu Mien culture, so others will not laugh at us as the weak people.
7. May I appeal to my old and young brothers and sisters, please be united and do not be divided. Please keep up our New Near celebration every year, for the old and all to enjoy.
