The whole "customer is always right" thing was invented in England at the first ever department store. I feel so bad for the queens who were struggling financially and at the same time feeling the pressure to invest more in their looks. This show doesn't have any prize money. I really believe the show should give them an allowance for their wardrobe if it's going to be judged and there is no prize. Joe Black said she sold a lot of her drag race outfits during quarantine to pay for rent since she thought her time on the show was over. I hope they all make lots of money from gigs when things are better.

Ru’s H&M rant will go down in drag race herstory, but it does make me a little sad that we’ve lost a lot of that original drag edge. You’re already expected to have dozens of unique and custom looks matching all sorts of themes, and then you’re expected to keep stepping it up compared to past seasons where contestants often spent tens of thousands of dollars for custom outfits made by expensive and overwhelmingly talented designers. Even for queens who do have design experience, it’s daunting to have to design outfits against some of Chicago and New York and LA’s best designers and costumers who often have had personal friendships and business relationships with their cities’ big queens for years. That said, none of that has helped Tina Burner, so there’s still no accounting for taste. And besides Violet, none of the queens who won were purely look queens anyway, so it isn’t really that bad or big of a deal.

The eurovision used to be entirely public voting but there was a lot of accusations of political voting. So now it's 50% public and 50% by a panel of music experts from each country. I don't think this really made a huge difference to the voting issues but it makes it more dramatic so I'm all for it. I love how the UK almost always comes either last or close to last.

At 47:00, it is mentioned how Chips are served in Newspaper. Some cute little insight, from a person who lives in Britain, and has had the story told to me many times by Friendly Pensioners! Though, this is much nicer/neutral way of putting it... Newspaper wrapping originated due to a shortage in serviceable wrappings for Food; Much like many things during the War & Economical Crisis, Britain has always had a hand in quickly figuring out a makeshift plan to continue life as normal as possible, even Clothes! That's why those Grandpa Caps have fifty different fabrics! As an immediate resort, Newspapers were seen as re-usable makeshift Wrappings & Plates to eat from, since nobody was keeping them and they were literally everywhere in the Streets and stacked more than anyone could sell, it helped that they were thick and soaked a lot of grease, too, which is what further established the idea after the shortages were over. Oh, of course it also helped that they were marketed and sold by Errand Children, which helped have them turn into a Doorstep Service, just like Milk Men! Many kind souls would be Local Samaritans and bring their own Newspaper they weren't using, too. However, it was abolished eventually, due to the specific inks found in those Newspaper's factories, turned out to contain traces of poisonous qualities and hazardous to Citizen's Health. It was ruled that whilst each Factory might've had a different ink to use, if it so impossible to delegate how poisonous it is, then they should forfeit risking poisoning the Nation. Now we just use blank cream paper, which serves as similar enough to the original design. I believe some locations do still try to re-create the original Art of eating out of a Newspaper, and it would be much safer, though still highly not recommended to eat from some manky Newspaper from yesterwhenever, by Health Regulators. Which, transition time! All Food related Stores with a Kitchen, are monitored by a Health Regulator, secretly or bluntly, and have their Hygiene ratings scored from 1-5 on big green stickers around the Food Seller's abode. Using Newspaper would likely damage the Store's rating and possibly hurt sales, which is why it has not returned more broadly across the Nation. Of course, Piers (Seaside Resorts) and other such places outside of more immediate legal repercussions, can easily continue the trend and is why you might associate immediately that those locations can use the original style of Fish & Chips. This has been Communicative History, with your's truly, Cinnamon Sundae! Thanks for tuning in, stay safe out there, lovely peoples of the internets!

Fish and Chips used to be wrapped in old newspapers many decades ago. Long replaced by more hygienic greaseproof paper these days and more often other types of cartons. Places that spend a bit more on packaging might have printed newspaper on their packaging. As nowhere in the UK is more than 70 miles from the sea, going to the seaside is an ingrained habit for many family holidays especially when kids are very small and people can't face a plane trip. Eating seafood in general is something you usually do when you go to the seaside, and and Fish and Chips is the cheapest and most popular. Many other kinds of shell fish are available for those that like them.

@neontenebrae19183 жыл бұрын
Fish & Chips shops are hugely iconic in the UK, you'll find them in every city and town and even at *minimum* one or two in the rural villages, but they're doubly iconic for seaside towns like Brighton, Whitby, Blackpool etc. The newspaper wrapping isn't super common and it's more of an aesthetic thing to go with the "bag of chips" custom, they'll have actual grease-proof paper that they wrap around the chips first and then the newspaper or just have two layers of plain grease-proof paper. And typically they fully close and bag it, the "cone" of paper is more an aesthetic thing from coastal towns too. There's also styrofoam boxes. Then you slather the whole thing in tomato sauce or vinegar, and (again for the aesthetic) eat it with a small disposal cheap wood fork with two prongs. It's fun! And tasty c:
@iain97573 жыл бұрын
The newspapers have kinda died out due to health and safety
@neontenebrae19183 жыл бұрын
@@iain9757 Yeaaah, I figured as much due to potential bacteria from them being out in the open plus the ink potentially contaminating the food. The last time I went to a coastal chippy the "newspaper" was that faux laminated paper that bends easily and it was purely for aesthetic dressing.

Re. Tia's vanilla ice cream cone - soft serve cones here in the UK are synonymous with the seaside and they only really exist in 'vanilla' (is it even vanilla? It's kind of just white) flavour. You usually have a little chocolate flake bar in there and that's called a '99'. But it never costs 99p it usually costs like £3 now depending on the town.
