About Captain of Industry:
Captain of Industry is a colony and factory simulation game. Your journey will start with a small crew of survivors on an abandoned island. If you do things right, you'll work your way up towards a self-sufficient colony and will play an important part in the region's industry. But first, in order to survive, you will need to mine raw materials, grow food, build factories, manufacture products, construct vehicles, research new technologies, explore your surroundings, and trade with other islands. If you are successful, you can even start a space program and build rockets!

Don't know why, but I really feel the need to explain the part with the turbine and the mechanical energy :D Generating power is done by converting energy. You can't create energy out of nowhere, you can only convert it. Coal contains energy. Burning the coal generates heat, which is the first conversion. The heat is put into water to create steam. That steam builds up pressure, flows over the turbine wheel and makes it turn. This is your second conversion - from warmth to mechanical energy, since the energy is now "contained" inside the turbine wheel's motion. The turbine wheel is connected to a shaft that is connected to a generator on the other side. Inside the generator you will find a central shaft which has magnets attached to it. The magnets turn around with the shaft and pass coils of wire. This induces a voltage inside thos coils. That is your third conversion, now you have electrical energy which can be used for all sorts of great stuff. So yes, a turbine is the same as a hand crank , since both carry mechanical energy only. /smartass mode disengaged.

My favorite part of this game is that you can move around the landscape as much as you want. I've spent hours just digging up the dirt and replacing it with gravel to make roads. I also enjoy creating new little islands in the ocean... reminds me of a time before there were any such thing as video games... when I was little, we had to use physical toys to do this kind of stuff. I spent a childhood just moving around dirt and building roads for my little cars and trucks. So much fun!

I find using 4 of the first two stages, two sour water strippers, and 4 chemical plants works for me. That produces more than enough diesel for almost 100 large trucks. I use the sulfur to make acid and rubber; turning the excess into slag to dump. The chemical plants turn the other stuff into fertilizer. When it comes to the boilers I use the excess oils to power them, just make sure to have a balancer connected to a burner so the system doesn't get clogged up. Also, you need some coal boilers to just get the system going. Pipe balancers are your friend.

Hey there Mr.kibbles, I’m back! Well, I was wrong about how many episodes it would take, but I was right in where you would hit the wall: the OIL!!! It’s already been said, but your over scaling your oil. You only need 2 distiller rows, not 4, and you can put either the heavy or light oil (use the heavy, light oil is gonna be useful soon) into a gas boiler to make steam, so you use less coal. Don’t forget to overflow the heating oil (heavy/light oil being burned for steam) into a “flare stack”, which acts like an awesome sink and prevents backing up. Wish I could help more, but keep up the fun content!!

For recipes, you can press the button on the regular map that looks like a cook's mixing bowl and whisk which is below your item statistics and maintenance % on the right side of the screen. Water supplies regen during rain and faster during heavy rain. They regen separately. The game warns you when you are at about 60% water supply in a section. You can set custom warnings to let the game know you are running low on something when you select storage units and click the alert button with a bell icon (queue for that notification bell *cough*). At first can seem hectic, but it gives you a lot more reaction time (panic time) to fix things before it completely runs out. Hope these help. I just unlocked tier 4 research, so far the oil was the most difficult setup. But with new research, new nightmares emerge. Enjoy!

16 oil chains is a huge overkill))) usually 4-6 chains is enough for everything. and they usually work making steam from diesel byproducts like heavy oil, light oil, fuel gas or even naphtha, so oil refining is totally self sustaining process.

4:00 Every time I watch someone play this game it manages to impress me in terms of the amount of research / process knowledge that the developer put into it. Sour water is not a sports drink LOL. It's one of those things that you wouldn't know about unless you've worked in the oil and gas industry before. It's wastewater from the refinery process of crude oil, known to contain toxic levels of hydrogen sulfide (HS) and ammonia (NH3). So they have to take this stuff and treat it by oxidation to remove the sulfides as thiosulfates (which are MUCH less deadly) and the ammonia will be converted into nitrates which then go off into the atmosphere to become the dreaded "acid rain" but since the wind takes it away from the refinery, hey that's someone else's problem, right?

Kibz the ground water is topped up by rain it's just a case of finding out a balance also depends how often it rains too. Also most builds to convert crude is 2 boilers for 2 stage 1's and 2 stage 2's left over steam can be used for stage 3 later on. You can also build all stage 1 block space apart for steam input (space saver)

8:30 "We need more groundwater to get this oil refinery up and running. Also we need coal to run our generators and make steam, and the coal mine also needs groundwater to operate. We have tons of coal but we're probably going to run out of water before too long. You know what? That oil will make us all filthy stinking rich before the water runs out... so let's just get it running already. Someone can solve the water crisis later." -- real life scenario in Texas.

I found out the greatest thing today. If you right click on any resource within your build selector pop-ups or within the recipe screen it will bring up all the recipes that resource is involved in. So if you forget what you needed to build or you're figuring out your next arrangement that makes it a lot easier to quickly jump between all the variety of recipes without ever scrolling through the list to find things. I think your ditch all byproducts mentality was a much better approach for oil. It can be a lot to bite off at once. I did that, fertilizer, and salt, all in one compact system and my lack of space made it all a big headache lol. Itll just be scrapped once build stage 3 anyways 😂 I will say though you will want fertilizer ASAP so you can grow your workforce without dedicating a quarter of your land to farms. So dont waste that sour water too long. You will want all the ammonia you can get. As others have mentioned Ground water does replenish during rain. So you shouldn't have to worry, besides youll be milking the seawater for salt soon enough and any excess brine can be dumped without penalty. So water is quite infinite once you make some thermal desalinators. Which I believe you just researched. Also Might be early to say, but Wait on chickens until you have a massive surplus of food. They hungry cluckers. Anyways, cant wait for the next episode. Ive been checking daily in anticipation of this series. You always go overkill and It's bound in this game especially to cause some crises.

Kibitz you can turn the light and heavy oil in the gas boiler also into steam but that is a bit tricky and can be a mess. BUT the saur water is very important because you can make sulfur out of it with can be used to make fertiliser and then you don't need to worry about Food anymore. Also wheat is good because you can make bread but you need to explore more for that that's a problem for future Kibitz. ps: I'm enjoying your content :)
