Im always amazed at how much these scale locomotives can pull.

Just back from a Steamy Sunday in the shape of a friends birthday party at the Reading track with 2 locos in steam... Rounded off with a visit to Engelfield steam up for Traction engines of all sizes. Tonight we were in the workshop putting my Compact 8 back together. Very steamy!!

Just wondering if the model 'Leader' is more reliable than the prototype was!!!
@ukmodelengineering7 жыл бұрын
The engine is running a simplified valve gear using Stephenson rather than the unusual sleeve valve of the full size, plus the fireman is not encased in the engine suffering heat exhaustion and smoke inhalation :-)

Thanks for the info! Still a fascinating miniature, none the less :-D

The leader is the ugliest steam locomotive it looks like a London Underground battery loco that was filled to the brim with steroids jacked up and mounted on bricks, it’s hideous
@calumblair52057 жыл бұрын
was that peter walker in the background around the 4:30 mark?
@ukmodelengineering7 жыл бұрын
Hi Calum Blair, yes at 4:40 you can see Pete Walker looking at the 'Leader' class locomotive, you will also see his daughter Jeanie Walker driving Pete's 5" Gauge A2 Locomotive 'Pearl Diver' later on in the film.

? what went wrong with the Blue "Golden Arrow" cheers dennis
@ukmodelengineering7 жыл бұрын
The engine has 3 hydrostatic lubricators to each cylinders, a union under the casing came lose allowing oil to spill onto the boiler and ash pan causing blue smoke, the drive retired the engine in case the oil became ignited causing damage to the locomotive.

Thank you, I hope it was an easy fix, nice loco cheers dennis

Where did the man who owns the leader get the drawings for it?
@haroldpearson60256 жыл бұрын
Morris Sentinel As far as I know the chap researched, did his own drawings and built the engine.

Why would you want to know, it is the ugliest locomotive ever to exist and was a complete failure at its purpose its hideous
@russellgxy29053 жыл бұрын
Different strokes for different folks I suppose. Clearly the Leader wasn’t a failure here! Maybe he got right what Bulleid and BR got wrong
@Lamp_21553 жыл бұрын
@@Supercreaturee it’s not really that ugly and at this scale even an e2 would be fine. Also it’s still a fascinating machine.

What type of train is that black one at the end? Never seen one like that before.
@ukmodelengineering7 жыл бұрын
The engine is a model of the SR Leader class designed by Bullied in an attempt to extend the life of steam powered locomotives. You can read more here - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SR_Leader_class

So what happened to the loco that was 'walked back' by the driver?
