I built a V3 way back as a relative newcomer to the hobby following my return from work abroad in the early eighties. I found it a nice model to build apart from two areas, these were the boiler and the smokebox plus the arrangement of exhaust and inlet pipes. I found with the smokebox I just had to struggle on trying different ways to get everything sorted below the firebox before fitting it and attaching the firebox and steam pipes. I had read that as a model it lacked a bit of grate area so my solution was to lengthen the firebox by 1" and sneak 1/4" (1/8" each side) from the inner and outer firebox wrapper sides. With its 3 cylinders and the boiler modifications it streamed superbly and would haul a good few passengers. I painted it exactly as yours is, the only one (as far as I Know) to have been painted Apple green when it was station pilot at Newcastle Central. It's nice to see another of these rarely built models running.

I really appreciate the work you put in to covering IMLEC, so many many thanks. What a lovely track Southport M&E have! Is the local society responsible for the plants within their fence? Clearly, someone ensures the undergrowth doesn't become overgrowth and there's some fine topiary on display, along with some beautifully presented model locos.
