It's a cool idea - kind of funny. But it doesn't actually work when you think about it. No one had ever witnessed Freeza's true form. Not many people even knew he could transform. And the only transformation he's used in the past offscreen at some point was his second form. It's never explained what caused him to go to his second form. I suppose it could be argued that Cold was aware of Freeza's true power, given it's presumably one of the reasons he handed down his empire to his son.

If you don’t remember this then you aren’t a true DBZ fan. I was a kid when I first saw this episode one time and I still remember it all these years later-it was iconic because it showed Frieza kept his henchmen terrified of him even after they could finally start speculating he might not be the strongest in the galaxy. To put it in perspective you don’t need to fear the general the most if your own lieutenant is ruthless enough. Frieza knew how to rule with an iron fist to keep his henchmen fearfully loyal even after they imagined they might be free of him.
