I don’t think she was meant to be screaming in terror in that scene. She is giving birth without any pain medication. The baby/creature is coming out. She is in agony. She is screaming in pain not fear.

That 'scene they used for most of the promo where she's covered in blood and screaming'? She's not just doing that for shock value or anything like that. (spoilers ig) She's literally giving birth? People scream when they do that. It was a good display of her acting range and it also did well to draw back to the elongated scenes of suspense and discomfort. My opinion obviously but I think it was really well executed

Sydney Sweeney has the potential to be great, another good performance from her was in TV show Sharp Objects with Amy Adams and White Lotus season 1. She has the acting chops, just needs to find right projects that bring out the best in her. It won't be long before the next Hollywood beauty "It" girl will come along and steal her spotlight. She can't live on that one forever. I don't think she's found her footing as a leading actress yet, she works way better in smaller character supporting roles which brings the best out of her. She's likeable and she's more then sexy "It" girl right now in Hollywood. I do think indie and TV work is where she suits better but she's going to push for big time Hollywood films, i totally get it.

AHHH THANKS FOR MAKING A VID ON THIS! Thank you for another great video! I will say I disagree with you on some things (respectfully) but especially your takes on Sydney Sweeney. (Minor Spoilers) Her best scenes in my opinion are her more subtle acting choices cause she’s rlly able to show her range. Like after she escapes the fire and is laying there you can see the change in emotions from being terrified to realizing she won and smiling (at least I think she does) back to terror upon realizing that she hadn’t when the guy jumps back out. The change in emotion is so clear to me and I would probably understand what was going on without them even showing it js thru her face. The scream at the end felt more like a scream from actively giving birth and less of a “I finally escaped this terrible situation and went thru a bunch of traumatic sh*t” scream so to me it seemed realistic (but I will say I think they could’ve cut it earlier cause it got kinda awkward when she’d stop screaming for a sec, catch her breath, and then start again). Anyways the only real critiques I have with her performance is a lot of the conversational lines felt like she took a chapter from “Anyone but You” with a sort of cheesier delivery than what the scene required. Regarding the whole film, I think the beginning was a little rushed and do wish they filled it out more to feel like a sequential story rather than a montage of scenes but once it got the the car scene the movie rlly picked up and got rlly good (for me at least) because everything filled out a bit more. I do agree with you about the jumpscares ngl but the scissors one and the one where she’s dreaming about being in the confessions room rlly got me (and the bird one was pretty good too)! I’d definitely watch it again and it makes me wanna see more horror from Sydney Sweeney so I’d give it a solid 7/10 😁
@HaiTharImDavid

Yes! All of this. I was gonna say the same thing as well about the scream. I thought it was pretty apparent that she was giving birth so of course there wasnt really any terror in it lol and definitely yes, coudlve been shorter. Just a wee bit. I mean I cant say for sure since ive never seen a real birth in real time but for the sake of the movie it was just a bit long lmao but she killed it. Just a few gripes like the nuns not really being explored or the girl at the beginning sortve just being a throw away scene. But other than that i thought it was a nice watch without over the top jump scares.
@Price_with_a_b
@Price_with_a_b Ай бұрын
Yesss I agree there was definitely room for development in many aspects of the film, but overall it exceeded my expectations and I found myself really enjoying it! The best part of the movie in my personal opinion was Sweeney's performance even though that seems to be a bit divisive lol (more divisive than I thought it'd be). I found her performance to be so raw and unfiltered which is something I haven't seen from her yet (contrasting her cheesier delivery in "Anyone but You" and her clean, precise approach in Euphoria). I think a lot of people are seeing her performance through the other characters she's played and not as it's own separated performance. Like I really don't think I'd see this much discourse about whether Sweeney fits the role or not if she was never associated with her other roles. Idk if that makes any sense but hopefully you can understand what I'm trying to get at lmao @@HaiTharImDavid

I was so disappointed in this movie. It had potential, but what got me was things just went on for too long, and that became the annoying theme of the movie. The scene of her on the floor after locking him in the lab goes on for too long, the screaming at the end goes on for too long, the car ride to the hospital too long, so much of this is just off. I felt like it wanted to be like Nocture, which Sydeney Sweeney did with Blumhouse on Amazon. That movie was so so much better.

I disagree with the screaming at the end going for too long part, she’s giving birth. How? We never know. Was the birth vaginal/ through the cut the mad scientist did? It’s up to the audience to decide, either way it was a painful scene of birth of something she never wanted. It’s supposed to make the audience feel uncomfortable, grossed out, and annoyed. That’s the whole point. We get to see what she’s going through without experiencing what she’s going through

Not seen the film or your review but what I do know is that you moan about films rather than review them so I encourage ppl to make their own judgements 🤘 (like you do tbf)

As a hardcore Catholic I liked it, it was weird in a good way. Many times when these films try to get a dunk on the Catholic Church, they end up supporting the theology way more than they intend.

It was immehculate. The end was dope. But the rest was rote. 2.5 stars out of 5.

Not watching this video because you should elaborate if this is spoiler free or not in the title/description. Just a suggestion because people like me searched "spoiler free reviews" and like 90% of these videos don't specify. Very frustrating.

it was terrible. I also don't get why Sydney keeps producing and casting herself in projects lately, does that indicate the start of the downfall of her acting career?

A little weird the take away from this review is “I wish the scenes where women are being mistreated were cooler, also why was screaming so much at the end?”

Any reviewer that calls a movie "weird" loses my respect immediately. The whole point of art is creativity.

Sydney Sweeney is not a fantastic actress. She can scream and cry. Those are her talents. Never have I actually felt that she WAS her character. Most of her line delivery is passable at best, and the only reason she's cast in anything is...because tits. That being said, she made a compelling enough protagonist in this story. My issues with this movie are broad. They took the hit of an R rating only to not give us the payoff. They played it safe so as not to offend the delicate sensibilities of the larger audience. I'm glad we never truly saw the baby, because it leaves the audience to wonder, was it evident that this was the antichrist, or was this simply her trauma response to the events she had been through? But everything else was half hearted and the CG was unsubtle and overused. Secondly, this story flirted with a few very common and important questions in religion and science, but never fully explores any of them. The extremely heavy handed line from his eminence about, "if it is not gods work, why does he not stop us" or w/e was lazy and clunky script writing, and only necessary because this movie lacked the runtime to force the audience to ask the question on their own. Overall, as religious horror goes, this was a good concept and decently done, but I could see definite room for improvement. Also, the foley artist was trash for this film. I know there are only so many sloshy, splooshy, squelching sounds one can make, the sound effect during the birth scene actually was so bad that it took me out of the scene entirely.
