@@abnersilverio I'm seriously considering immersion cooling my GPU's. It makes a lot of sense from the noise, space and maintenance viewpoint. I fail to see a downside other than the up front cost, but if your in it for the long term it makes perfect sense. The DCX guys claim 75 GPU's will fit in one of their modular tanks. As long as you have the power then expansion in a limited space is possible.

When you use immersion cooling you have also lower power consumption on basic settings? Is is possible to save few % of power consumption? My asic will consume 3154w I want to use immersion cooling, and I want downgrade power consumption to 3000w, is it possible?

Nice design and great job adding in a bypass loop for the final iteration. You may want to look into enclosing the entire inner/ outer box portion as open-loop systems (such as cooling towers for commercial buildings, etc.) are notoriously subject to impurity build-up and can, over time, cause corrosion to your equipment. I think it may be simple enough to add a sealed lid to the outer box and thus creating a seudo-closed-loop system. Also have you considered designing this without a basin (outer box) and just pipe the heated water out directly from the bottom of the tank? You would need to install an expansion tank on the suction line as well as an air-separtor but I think this would be a bit more professional and you can basically just lookup a closed loop chilled water system schematic to get an idea of how to lay this out.

Definitely gives me more confidence in building my first tank. I was very new and simply built a box to fit everything in with a 12" exhaust. It works well but didn't reduce the sound as much as I hoped. I have been bouncing the idea around and seeing the past two videos, I'm pretty confident I can do it now. Probably will have 2 tanks, 1 for my 5GPUs and 1 for my 2 BTC miners.

Ball valves yes on both sides of the pump, but also Unions on both sides of the pump for easy removal and maintanence... essentially ball valve > union > pump < union < ball valve. ensures that minimal liquid is lost during maintance needs.

Also forgot to mention that having the free flowing water fall design may cause a lot of entrained air bubbles in the coolant (this is common in water but I don't know the properties of the coolant you're using), this may corrode/ pit and damage the pump as the bubbles basically implode when they reach the pump impeller where pressure dramatically rises. On that note, also be caution of designing with enough suction line pressure (look up NPSHa) or you can cause cavitation of the pump. Hope this helps!

You are correct the water fall should crest micro bubbles and can boil water I'm the impeller... that being said I think bitcool he's using is close to mineral oil I'm viscosity. Slowing down the bubble rate if there are any. The manufacturers tanks are actually built that. But if the fall is long before hitting the lower fluid that could happen! It's a good thing to look for!!

Only issue I can see is you need to have allowed the correct height in Box 1(inner) & 2(outer) for the thermal expansion of the dielectric fluid because you will need the level in Box 1 to be at least as full as the level of your pump suction pipework otherwise you will airlock and lose the prime of the pump(centrifugal pumps are not self-priming). If you are cycling this miner, then you'll either need to have a taller Box 1 or shorter suction pipework so you don't have to constantly monitor the fluid level in Box 1. Personally I would also be concerned of aerating the fluid as it waterfalls from Box 1 into box 2, maybe just allow for a taller Box 2(maybe matching or close to the height of Box 1) with holes drilled into the top of Box 1 to allow a smoother transition of flow between boxes. You will just need a larger volume of dielectric fluid.

Great vid, really enjoying the journey you are on. You mentioned that the pump should be lower than the tank, but in the final design it looks higher? For drainage and to help prime the pump you might want to flip the pipe coming out of the hot tank so its under the tank not on top of it.

that is cool as hell. i realize this is an older video, but... some thoughts. on the tank you curently have, i belive i would want the seperation wall betweent he hot and cold sides to be a deadcell, even double or tripple pane, as (you may already have realized) the design of the outflow take exposes your cool side to heat. now the flow of the system makes so that dosent mater so much. still seems inefficient. as for your new tak design, seems like you accounted for A LOT of things that you learned from this experience. though my very first though would be what orientation this pair of mining units are going to be in, as if they are laying down, then i would want the outflow to be inline with their outports instead of 360 degrees. though if they are standing up then it wont mater. all in all this seems like a really cool project, and the concept will work well for what im planning.

Always install barrel unions on parts that you'll commonly need to remove or infrequently replace. Ie. Both sides of pump. Will save a lot of pipe and fittings and makes future replacements/modifications a breeze. How do you keep the dielectric fluid clean if in open air? Maybe consider putting in a small Y strainer before the pump. Also how is the copper to PVC plumbed? I haven't done any before - resin or glue? Otherwise very interesting :)

The copper to pvc is a pre manufactured piece I got from supplyhouse.com. I may make a cover for the whole thing once it’s going to keep things out of the open tanks. Or an in-line filter, yeah.

"Spoofers" are just resistors. They put a load on the 12v or 5v line the fans use, thus the miner thinks the fans are running. A bit of solder and 50 cents in resistors would do this job.

It looks like you didn't mount the control board to the handle provided by EF. Instead you placed it in between the rails where the PSU was attracted originally. Can you share why you did it this way?

Nice mkII design. Watch out for bubbling and air entrainment when the hot liquid falls out of the first box and into the second box. Try keeping a laminar flow rate, and angle the sides of the upper box slightly so the liquid "slides" into the lower box, rather than "falling" into it. Lastly, if possible the bottom of the upper box should be insulated from the liquid of the bottom box. If not, the heat in the lower box will naturally transfer to bottom of the upper box.

someone probably already explained two things in the design at the end of the presentation one - there is no positive pressure for the pump in this design, put it all on legs and put a port near the bottom of the outer tank that drops to the pump two and I see this in many designs, don't let the miner tank share a wall with the "hotter liquid" or recovery tank. it will just help to heat up the cooler liquid and of course the coolest' liquid is at the bottom of the inner tank, in your later design. push the bottom of the outer tank up so the level stays high and that may allow for the aforementioned, higher than the pump port

Pause - you love in Florida, so this is more than applicable. You need to seal your system fluids to avoid evaporation though more importantly, condensation. Many of the immersion designs can achieve high flow which masks the issue of condensation by continuously mixing moisture into the fluids, but, if you have a dead spot, an eddy current, you might start to see pearls of water bubbles at the lowest point. Obviously, water conducts electricity and shorts out electronics. Seal the system, consider a ball valve drain at the lowest point.

It really doesn’t vibrate much at all! If the pump is on like the middle of a hollow cabinet or something it will buzz, but if you have something solid under it or screw it down it’s extremely quiet

Have you thought about just replacing the heatsinks on the hash boards with a forced liquid heat exchanger (maybe just water through an aluminium block) and quick connects. Use a standard radiator and pump. Not weird dielectrics and a big bath. Basically like a car cooling system.

you should have taken all your hints from hydronic heating system design and put in isolator flanges, they bolt up to that pump and make it much less messy to replace a pump WHEN [not if] it fails. Also, rubber is quite fragile in a chemical sense, throw away the rubber seals and replace with PTFE. Avoid threaded connections whenever possible, soldered, glued and crimped connections will basically last forever without leaking. Also, add a sediment filter to protect the whole system, but specifically protect the pump and rad from any foreign schmoo that could clog it and reduce performance.

It’s designed so that it’s really close to the exact size of the tank, then there are slits in the plate where the intake to the miner is so turbulent flow makes it way up and through the miner.

If you immersion cool it without an overclock it will mine a little faster than normal because of the cool temperatures - but an overclock is necessary to drive it to a speed you choose.

Yep they did - and my first immersion video I talked about it and did it! But its super hard to maneuver the miner if youre by yourself and if you want to unplug anything its on the bottom... They have a kit to move the wiring to the top - not sure how much theyre charging for it

I don't understand the 200k BTU either, but I was hoping to see better temps :( 200k BTU in a calculator is like 50+ kw of heat (again I have no idea how the thermal thing works) - that S19 is using how many watts? 4000w/4kw?

Well NOT overclocked its only using 3000w (3Kw) , but I have since learned that nothing transfers heat as well as water - so when a radiator says it can do 200k BTU thats with water, and with bitcool its actually more like 40kw! Sooooooo you have to way oversize if youre going straight to a radiator.. A way to combat this is using a 2 phase system, with bitcool to plate heat exchanger, plate heat exchanger to water and to a radiator, and then you can squeeze out more heat with the same radiator.

One more recommendation put two valves one of each sides of the pump. If the pump needs to get replaced you have basically zero lost liquid.

Check out the pumps dcx use….look similar to red pump in video and just as quiet. I’m not quite sure what model they use.

Most likely, but you’ll want to know what the hose is made out of and check the compatibility list on engineered fluids website. Though, in speaking with them, MOST hydraulic hoses fit the spec

I wish I had calculated that but I don’t know. Total guess I would say about a gallon. There is a lot of open space inside the machine.

What do you do about the power supply fans ? Do you need to spoof them also or just unplug them ? Errors ?

I just unplug them, I’ve also tested just leaving them stock. They can’t heat up, so they aren’t affected by turning slower.

@@SPACEDESIGNWAREHOUSE ah ok so I’ll unplug mine , I run a s19k pro with two 8” blowers (push/pull) with my own 3d printed manifold … I currently got the blowers push on 50% and pull on 25% , it’s almost completely silent , temps are 28f inlet and 45f outlet ( had them higher earlier but the outlet was 31f and I was worried about ice , also I’m Getting a s21 hopefully for Jan-march , I hope it uses similar spoofers 😁 (I’m plugged into oven outlet(230v 60amp) made my own silencers from wet rolled cardboard and eggshell noise things/tinfoil interior exterior I don’t pay for electricity

@@RandomPlayer717 WOW! Those are the coolest exit temps I’ve ever heard!! You could definitely turn down that inlet fan to 30%. 50C temps are very cool, 45f temps are bonkers cool.

Looking forward to mk3. What’s the deal with prepping the asic for immersion cooling? I’ve seen all sorts of conflicting info. Anything from: doing very little, to: remove heatsinks, thermal paste, bathe and clean hash boards etc. I want to make my own system and only this info is stopping me from making a start.

The minimum you need to do is remove the fans and get some fan spoofers. That’s literally the only step I took for this one. It’s been running for about a week now problem free! And I’m in Florida where it’s still hitting 80 in the daytime. All the parts for mk3 are in transit! Looking forward to putting that thing together

One thing I read was that thermal paste can both hinder the effectiveness of the fluid (it should be in direct contact with the chips) and that it can degrade and contaminate the fluid. Perhaps these articles were for older types of cooling fluid. So none of this is a concern or being considered for the next build?

@@BiscuitTheFirst I actually went to engineredfluids.com HQ and had a long conversation with their guys, and no one mentioned that.. I know with GPUs it’s important to swap out the thermal paste with thermal epoxy instead. But for some reason I haven’t heard that for ASICS.
