Very nice video with great narration 👍 Have you ever started from the coast/beach or do you always head out to sea first? I'll be in Portugal in August and I don't know yet whether I'll charter a boat and it would be cool to know if there are any good spots that can be reached from land. Best wishes, Philip

Hello Philip! Thank you very much, I am really glad you enjoyed the video! In the south coast of Portugal spearfishing by the coast is a bit tricky… it often has blury water and there are lots of boats because it is very touristic and thus it gets dangerous, which is why I prefer hunting more in the open. Also it has more fish offshore and if you have access to a sonar, you will find them gathered around rocks and structures. This vid is in Albufeira. Then there is the side of Portimao and Lagos that I have not been yet but I know that the coast gives more opportunities: more rocky and with more possibilities to do a shore dive (always careful of boats though!). Then Sagres (if you search on KZbin) has very good areas that you can enter by the shore. Same for the west coast of Allgarve and Alentejo. Sooo… if you stay around Albufeira-Vilamoura-Portimao, boat must be a good option if you want to find good fish and clean water. If you are in Sagres, or west Algarve coast & Alentejo coast there you need no boat, but the coast is more rough there so has less opportunities to spearfish). As for northern areas, the sea gets rougher the more up you go but I dont have a lot of experience for that part (only did like 6-7dives in Porto and Peniche) Hope this helped!

Thanks for the answer, unfortunately I only read it now. I have arrived in Portugal and am near Portimao. Since renting a boat is too expensive for me in the long run, I think I will take an inflatable kayak if it doesn't work from the coast. Do you know the spearfishing shop in Portimao and can you recommend it? I wanted to go there next week and get some tips and Ask for good spots.I have one more question to you, how thick is your wetsuit? Regards, Philip

Hello Philip! I just saw your response! I usually buy all my material online from the store diveinn, so I do not know of a diving shop there. But with a quick search there seems to be just one ?penguin sub?. Then you have another in Lagos called Nauticmar. I am diving with a 5mm suit, cause the water is not cold at this time of the year. I hope your diving is going well and you 're already enjoying here!

@@TiagoFigueiredo1 Olá Tiago! Estou no Algarve :D it is the only way for me, I already gave up on shore diving in the south coast, to avoid the dangers and also to access more fish. Estás pelo Algarve também?

Just out of curiosity, did you register the kayak as a recreational vessel so you can use it for recreational fishing? And do you have a sailor's license or something else? Thanks for the information.
@ocean.sniper3 ай бұрын
@@fmacarico Hi! Yes, I do have a sailor's license and for fishing I have a spearfishing license. I primarily use the kayak as a diving platform, not for fishing onboard, so indeed the needed registration is for ER5 to be able to navigate further than 300m from the coast. If you plan to stay within 300m from the coast and you do not use fishing gear while onboard, my interpretation (and what I was told by the capitania of Faro) is that you do not need any sail licence or kayak registration. Hope it helps!
@ocean.sniper3 ай бұрын
@@fmacarico but keep in mind that it's always a good practice to talk with your capitania. And if you want to register, you need a very important doc which is the Declaração da Conformidade, which you make sure to ask when you buy the vessel otherwise you can't register it

You maybe lost a lot of octopus overthere. You should explore more inside the rocks
@ocean.sniper2 ай бұрын
True XD I'm really struggling with my motivation to carefully check in the rocks. But at least I got every spot marked on the Garmin Striker 4, so one of these days gonna give it a try :D
