That mixer part of the first Field Kit also works as 4 mic preamps. I've used it to amplify the output of a piezo contact mic then run it out to effect pedals. Super versatile unit all around

Perfect video, you’ve “talked” about these 2 units in a manner that I understand, you’ve connected the dots for me and I have A.D.D. Great thing about watching long informative videos on youtube and you get distracted is one can rewind. Definitely picking up just the Field Kit to start with. I’m just now getting into Electro-Acoustic recording and planning future Art performances. I play several string instruments/pedals, synths/samplers, percussion/drum machines, use tapes/2 track Reel to reel, 4 track cassette and dictaphones, vocal processors and Field Kit, I sense, is going to bring it all to another level and dimension. And this was a pure “RANDOM" search while browsing Control Voltage’s online store. Thank you Scott!!

I love your talking too. Pretty good explained without hectic behavior like "hey, let's check what my new stuff can do" so that a foreign speaker isn't scared or overburden. You bait a curious multi-instrumentalist into the wisdom of modular world which he want to experience in small steps more from now. NTS-1 got already my fingerprints for some days. During this video, before mid-point actually, I headed over to the Koma home page and bought the Field kit (not the FX) and a bunch of cables, contact mics, solenoid, etc. Initially, as a sonic and synthesizer newbie, I've been asking myself what synth should I buy, and even though there are some strong contenders, Behringer Neutron, Dreadbox Typhon, Behringer Odyssey, 0-Coast, they are inherently limited, and I just couldn't settle for one. The Field kit, I heard about it just some weeks ago for the first time (on the Hainbach channel), and it made me interested. During this video, I became aware of the principal reason, it offers so much freedom, and to me, that is the bone fide creative driver. I will probably buy a semi-modular synth as well, or the Odyssey for its rich soundscape (and its filters, which btw can be utilised on an external source since it comes with an Audio In), but the Koma will offer something I've not seen anything else offer in my price range. Thank you for talking!
@immersiveworlds4 жыл бұрын
I enjoyed your detailing of how you might use it. The Typhon would be amazing. Have you considered an NTS-1? The effects alone would pair well with the Koma.
@zerotransversal4 жыл бұрын
@@immersiveworlds NTS-1 was my first(!), I should've mentioned that, but I didn't assemble it until just an hour ago - your video unboxing it finally made be sit down and do the job! An incredible package, to my novice ears / eyes. If it had shipped in a 30x8x30 cm metal chassis with big knobs and high-brow design (as the Typhon), it would've been considered reasonably priced at $299, that is my guess.

Curious does the effects unit generally have the same capabilities as the og? It seems the original field kit has the capacity of supplying power to a solenoid and better suited for experimenting. While the effects unit is better suited for use with modular units. I have an 0 coast, ni Mk3, expecting a Neutron when they drop. I am generally into experimentation but also play in a band and looking to sample unique sounds. If you had to choose one which would you go for?
@immersiveworlds6 жыл бұрын
Robert, I think you have stated the differences very accurately. In my opinion, the original field kit allows for more Electro Acoustic experimentation with the solenoid, CV radio, sensors/switches, and mixer for piezos. The FX allows for more modular or semi-modular connectivity. Together they are quite a pair. I guess I would say that it depends on what you plan to do. With the Neutron (need to order one too!) and 0-Coast, I would expect you would have a blast with the FX, specifically it's CV sequencer, wich is a blast!
@modularben74216 жыл бұрын
hmm I also want a Neutron and right now have a 0-coast and plan to get more modular gear so how good is the mixer and sequencer for Eurorack gear?
@immersiveworlds6 жыл бұрын
Erogenous Levitt 8 mixer is good for Eurorack. You could also get simple ones like a Unity. So many options with sequencers, from very simple to complex. I would say that Eurorack sequencers are amazing. The most recent Sonicstate did a discussion on some of them (as well as the new hardware sequencer SEQ-12.
@recycled_city6 жыл бұрын
Robert Price Other than both having four channel audio mixers (which still vary between the two), there’s really not any overlap between the two. The Field Kit is really designed more for sound generation, and the FX is more for...well, FX. The FK is really for designing systems, using DC or solenoids to generate rhythms that you run back into the FK with contact mics, using different switches and sensors to create CV, using the envelope follower to generate CV from audio signals to control things, etc. The FKFX, which I just got and don’t know as well, is for FX. Mostly. There’s some very cool things happening with the CV routing and sequencer. Tons of creative potential with this thing. But it is still at the heart a beautiful, dirty, lofi FX unit. So it really depends on your needs. One is more for the beginning of the audio chain, the other for the end, and combined together they make a pretty amazing whole.
@sirbo6906 жыл бұрын
Given my setup ( 0 coast, mk3, keystep, octave Cat) I went for the fx. I’m looking into building a piezo junk set as well. I may go for the og at a later date for future de-constructive antics.
