Im from germany and I have friends living in NYC. When I flew for the first time I was a bit nervous but they just do their Job, be polite and they will be also polite, never had problems. Fact I want to share : If you're a European citizen of any country of the Schengen area and want to go to another country (of the Schengen area) you can stay there for 3 months without needing the official Visa. That's why I love it here so much. I can just sit in one train and visit Vienna and Budapest on the weekend and come back.

I recently was asked by a passport controler in Switzerland the reason for my travel, whereby it was clear that my destination was my place of birth. As I was never asked this question before (over sixty years old) I was absolutely baffled by the absurdity. The controler was obviously not trained to hear such an answer as: I am going HOME. I expected that to be sufficient, but it was not, as a dissuction ensued, however the controler endured a history lesson from me and I gained some grey hairs.
