IMMORTALS // Short Film // Blender 3D Animation

This short fully animated film follows our four heroes called Immortals who have to defend Earth from a powerful villain called Ares. Ares seeks to destroy Earth with his new super weapon but will the immortals stop him or will it be too late.
This short film was created by a main team of 4 VFX artists, with extra help with modelling, texturing and music. We created this during lock down at our final year of University. We started work around July 2020 and finished in May 2021.
The main software used to create the 3D renders was Blender and to edit was Premiere Pro. However, we also used: Maya, Houdini, Substance Painter and Motionbuilder for modelling, texturing, UVing, simulations and motion capture clean up.
This was my first time Directing and CG supervision a short film, as well as working as a 3D artist.

Wow! This has gained way more attention than we could have imagined. Thank you everyone for checking out our project. The main team of 4 who worked the most on this, are all vfx/cgi artists, and so that was our main focus, compared to the story and sound FX. I enjoyed that. Haters might say it's cliche or the plot is derivative but i think it's here to showcase the talent, skills and the software. So I hit the LIKE and i liked several of the positive comments bc it is something you should be proud of. I would've like to see some sort of twist at the end. Like he takes his helmet off and we see that they're actually bipedal mutant turtles, or Ares was something different. I love that Ares is a good 11-ft tall. That makes sense. i'm okay with him getting out down whilst gloating and monologging but i would've loved some sort of clever twist idk what it would be Then again, maybe twists at the end are now the cliche as that's what we expect. Maybe THIS is how you subvert expectations

This was an opportunity for us to showcase our skills and try new things. This was our first time doing any of this, we where also under lots of constraints such as time and covid restrictions. We were also all vfx artists, not script writers, so they story is very basic and full of holes, but are intention was to create something visually cool and to try new things. Looking back after a couple years, I would change so much, but we all have to start somewhere, and without making this project, myself and the rest of the team, would not be where they are today.

There is a reference that could easily have been borrowed from Australian ANZAC tradition. The only thing that bothered me bout your vid is after the intro of peace and cooperation we immediately go into vicious battle: doesn't mesh quite right. However, beyond that the mood, atmosphere and especially your lighting are spot on.

Thanks! This was our first time making a short film, especially a fully animated one. The main team of four of us had to do basically everything from scratch, so it was quite a challenge. But we learnt loads from doing this so we can use that to make even better stuff in the future.

Cool animation for sure! The Immortals' rifles could maybe fire faster-moving rounds, but... So they killed the bad guy, right? Mr. I. M. Agod got his holey bucket kicked from behind . So why did Captain Marty McMartyr have to blow himself up with the ship? Couldn't he have just called dibs on it? Did I miss an important plot point?

Thanks! It took about 11 months from start to finish. Everyone that worked on this used their own PCs and so the specs vary a lot. We used some render farms to get the final frames.

So once again a villain has victory in his grasp, but loses because he stops to gloat. Way too cliche. He could have killed the good guy with one more stroke, but turns his back to gloat and apparently didn't hear the guy get up because his metal suit and sword made absolutely no sound against a metal floor. Trying not to roll my eyes too hard.

I gotta say the sound design needed some serous work in this. Bootsteps sound like high heels, a dropped weapon sounds like some kids plastic toy hitting the kitchen floor, weapon reports sound like airsoft guns... nothing has any balls. This is supposed to be high tech as all hell but they're fighting with sticks & knives???
