I 've hammered it into steel sheet, cut industrial staples, used it as a chisel to split 6 inch diameter wood. What's impressive is the black coating, its held up incredibly well. Mine is a newer model, perhaps they improved the coating. The steel tempering is amazing.

I loved the SP10 but I couldn't help but modify it. I've got the SP6 fighting knife which I love so I decided to make it a big brother blade. I chopped off the hump on its spine, sharpened about half of it, lowered the tip, stripped the finish and thinned out the edge. I'm still working on polishing it and after that I'm going to either give it a striped patina or blue it, haven't made up my mind on it yet. It's a lot lighter now and makes crazy deep cuts even being lighter. Ontario makes some great gear. They remind me a lot of Cold Steel when I comes high value, low cost blades.

@@DonnieBAllDay Well my lovey dovey got me the sp10 for xmas and I must say, damn it's a big beast tank of a knife. You really can't tell from pics and vids on the net..and holy crap is it heavy. It has great grip and the blade-heavy balance makes it a really excellent chopper. It's my daily now. I found strapping it to my bag was really fatiguing on a 12 mile hike, but when it was strapped to my belt, i never noticed it. Also, i think i figured out why OKC uses two buckle straps to hold the knife in the sheath. You see, the second time I used it, I put the knife away in the trunk of my jeep with just the one snap buckle that goes over the guard. When i got home and took it out of the jeep, the blade actually fell out of the sheath and landed on the ground in my parking spot! I was like "nooooooo". no damage, just some coating off the tip thank the lord..but now i think both snap buckles are required to fully secure the blade in the sheath due to it's weight..i also noticed the snap buckles are not that strong...Either way, love the knife and it was your review that made me choose it as my daily. Thanks Donnie! Love your channel, love your content. You're funny as hell when reviewing too LOL keep up the good work!

Hi, Donnie, if you were to do a comparison between SP 10 and Junglas regarding heat treatment what is in your opinion better made? And how about the toughness? I have had the Junglas but gifted it to a friend. It's an excellent knife with an extremely well done heat treatment, but the lack of guard just didn't do it for me plus I prefer sharpened clip point blades. How about the kraton, it is durable, especially in the pommel area? It's been a while since I am eyeballing it and was about to click the add to cart button, but I just want another opinion. Stay sharp, brother. Best regards from France.

You can't beat the Esee heat treat and temperament. I believe that the Junglas is unmatched. I recently did a video comparing large camp knives and it's easy to see why the Junglas takes it. A leather sheath retains moisture which will rust blade, a kydex will not. In a bad fall this blade will penetrate the leather sheath, NOT in a kydex sheath. Ontario knife company knows what they are doing.
@DonnieBAllDay7 ай бұрын
Not really. This blade is coated for rust prevention. You always clean your knife after use and it your sheath gets wet, just like kydex, you let it dry. Kydex dulls the edge going in and out of the sheath, leather doesn't and in order for the blade to bite through the sheath, it needs improper seating. Maybe if they knew this, they'd still be in business

@@DonnieBAllDay Sorry Bro, couldn't resist. Love the SP-10. Only thing that bugs me is they updated the sheath but they changed the steel from 1095 to 1075. Penny pinchers.

@@ZombieOrchestra im no fan of the grip

@@DonnieBAllDay The grip is a little odd, but there is a lot of real-estate for large paw'ed humans and it isn't slippery like those plastic Becker grips. The SP-10 would be a good candidate for a custom handle job though! I've seen some pics of the tang and it would be doable.
