Let me add my two cents to the issue at hand. Im not a babalawo but i have a fair understanding of contemporary spirituality including Ifa. Ifa verses are not static like the claims of Quran and Bible. You may see Ifa talking about events that are relatively recent but still attributed to Orunmila. Some Babslawos were so to say had the authorities to add to Ifa verses and in such instances, it will still be considered as spoken by Orunmila. The problems of traditional practitioners today is in trying to conform with the ideology or view of Muslims or Christians. In the days of old, a priest or priestess or a deity that has attained certain spiritual attainment is equally deified. A classical example is the Alaafin Sango. His real name is Tela but he was a Sango devotee. After death he became deified. So if you see Ifa reffering to events that happened the lifetime of Alaafin Sango, it was definitely verses included by Babalawos that are qualified to be addressed as Orunmila. So Baba Abimbola is correct about the history of imole as people practicing religion of the malians. its an open knowledge in Yoruba land until recently. The bottom line in all earth centred spirituality is about the effectiveness of the practice not about being right or wrong. Even in Yoruba land today, the way they do Ifa initiations in different clans is not exactly the same. In some instances what who feed your Orisha in your ile may be a taboo somewhere else. The question is, is it effective?

More wisdom Baba Islam is not perfect and I can tell that ifa has been tampered even my uncle who's Oba isegun of Ogun State general told me about Otura meji and mentioned Muhammad in it which I did not accept because this world has being exciting over 6000 years or more , and Mali did not practice Islam at first they practiced their own religion called (DOGON) believe in their creator called AMMA. So how can you tell me that Orunmila mentioned Muslims no it's all fabricated

Oriki ifa and odu ifa is two different things. It is true that Odu ifa has been in existence decades before Islam but oriki ifa was been used to document notable events as time goes on. Is that cleared now?

I disagree with the assertion of Babalawo Wande Abimbola….Islam came to Yorubaland through trade with Hausa/Fulani people. Anywhere the Hausa/Fulani people settled they established a mosque. Hausa/Fulani people are the major sources of Kolanut( Obi) and other agricultural products whose production is not supported by our soil here just like Christianity came through contact with European traders/ explorers.

You're not correct, Islam has been in Yoruba land ever before Uthman Dan Fodio or Alimi in Ilorin. There is actually nothing wrong with Islam in its original form and that was the version our forbears had contact with through Mali. The version of Islam today is just a tool for conquest and suppression and that's the version that came through the Fulanis. Talking about Kolanut, the northerners you're tslikg about knew that kolanut is grown in Yoruba land. Beyond eating it, it is a handy recipe for our traditional venerations of the Orishas and even during occasions like wedding, naming ceremony est. How could such an important item tightly integrated to our existence be sourced from Fulanis. Kolanut has always been part of Yoruba culture. "Ijesha osere omo onile obi"
