Impact of AI on the future of neurology

Daniel Goldenholz, MD, PhD, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Boston, MA, discusses the impact that artificial intelligence (AI) may have on the future of neurology. Currently, AI can be used to keep physicians updated on developments in diseases that they do not specialize in and inform them of drug-drug interactions. In the future, it is likely that AI will be required for neurology physicians, due in part to the rapid growth in information that physicians require to treat patients. As AI progresses further, there may come a time when multiple patients are directed by AI, with a physician overseeing this, meaning that physicians’ main focus would shift from memorizing information to connecting with patients. This interview took place at the American Academy of Neurology Annual Meeting 2023 in Boston, MA.
