NWA at the time was operating as a wrestling brand that could be licensed out to promotions. There were multiple companies at that time using the NWA banner. Impact was known as NWA: Total Nonstop Action or NWA:TNA. Their agreement ended in 2006 and Impact officially cut ties with the NWA in 2007 when they unveiled the TNA belts. NWA today isn't the same company exactly, it's the same brand but now operates as its own company promoting their own shows with some co promoted events like the Crockett Cup with ROH. Impact initially used the NWA to gain their legitimacy. Most world titles today are actually derived from a split from the NWA world championship including but not limited to the ECW (non wwe), WCW, Impact and WWE world titles.
