Well spotted, mate. I faced the same issue a few months ago, and having to ream out that hole just made me weep.

An additional watning: the same company , I believe , makes a slightly larger switch seen on marshall reissues. The one on my current build gas 3 switch positions 4,8,16. But it will turn 6 times . 3 positions don't have a marking or continuity. So you could potentially move the dial to a spot that will show no load on your ot.

What a bunch of crap..... Good call out Brad

Thanks for sharing this. I'm building a plexi right now, and the modulus chassis has a cutout for a similar switch, but it's the one that you see on marshalls and has flanges with 2 screw holes for mounting. I HOPE it's a different manufacturer!!!

Some jobs you make money from, on others you earn your reputation. Just finished one of the latter for a guy, hope he brings me more work. 😂

Damn. I put one of these in an amp I built because I thought they looked pretty good and didn't cost an arm and a leg like the old Marshall coin slot selectors. So far no breakage, but I keep things on 16R all the time anyway.

There is a lot of current going through the secondary winding. You want a heavy duty switch here.

Is there a smaller and more reliable switch that could be used? If so, is it possible to create an "adapter" to mount the good switch in the large round hole? Just a thought. Oh ... and Thank You for the video, Brad!

I removed it from my Ampeg VL and hardwired it to 8 Ohm. Those switches suck haha. There's more expensive version that someone put into single ch vl I bought, it's bigger and with 2 screws like those on JCM 800 reissue. I hope it's better, but the way it works seems similar to those

I'm wondering if you could 3d print an adapter for the large opening to use a less expensive (and better) switch. I've done something similar for filling large chassis holes in an old PA amp to fit regular Switchcraft jacks.

Looks like the same crap switch VHT used back in the day (maybe still do... been a while since I repaired one), they were the perfect trifecta of crappy/expensive/rare

I think these are what marshall and hiwatt used these. set it and leave it alone was alway my rule with these cheap impedance selectors.

Kind of suck? Selling it a bit short, Brad, especially for the price. Dammit Bogner, you make some great amps but make some head-scratcher decisions

Why don't they use the same type of switch as a main voltage selector switch as well? 🤔 I mean it's always less than 250 VAC, and broken switch is really quite a small problem unless you pee into it...

These are throw away amps. Typical production approach. If it last past the warranty ...they can sell a zillion before they discontinue the model.

Riveras are very reliable amps. This is more of a indictment on the switch itself.

@@BradsGuitarGarage I have only ever own a Rivera Fender which was okay. What are your thoughts on the Rivera amp?
@Mark706092 ай бұрын
The amps with D class output stages may fall into the expendable class. I wonder how long the chips will be available, it might be like the 741 opamp where something will be around to fit the amp or it may not.
