I've been having good luck on keeping any other relay stations from "landing" on any of my planets by having a polar ring of turrets set to all air with a signal tower at each pole. IF the relay is still in "ship" form it doesn't give much threat to the hive. Whiel it wont STOP them from sending ships, it will keep them from actually establishing a base. Its a lot cheaper then nilus's setup as the signal towers have a 4200m space range. A signal tower at each pole covers the entire space area around a planet to kill any "ships" Problem with Nilus's setup is that a relay will still be made and you just burn a constant set of missles each time they start to rebuild the base under the relay. This DOES send 1 xp to the hive each time it happens so the hive can level up and with more bases on the planet the more they will gain. If you just kill the ship, its 1xp still but its only a single instance whereas if the relay is established its 1xp until you remove teh base. (note though that relay bases are a good source of early power and with my method of killing the ship, they wont make a hole for a geo. If im going to be away, i set the polar missles to all air/space, and when im nearby and still want geos i set them back to default settings. The hive needs matter to make buildings and units while the relays need energy (which the hive provides)

@MrLancar Жыл бұрын
I did this too. 1 ring of plasma turrets at each pole (about 10-20 turrets, or so) was all it took to completely guard the planet against incoming relays from the hive. (normal settings). You just gotta remember to set them to target "upper air" (i think it's called) so they actually target the relays, and you're done.

Been trying this blueprint myself since you uploaded it and, I must say, it is disgustingly efficient. Total protection from a planet, and, in lower difficulties, you don't even need the kickstart, as the solar panels themselves provide barely enough power to keep things rolling.

I actually starved out a dark fog in my starting system. It can't even rebuild spaceships or relays now so I've been slowly chipping away at it with my destroyers. I did it by clearing out all the land hives manually and then placing around 50 rocket launchers on each planet facing all directions and set them to attack low air so they shoot relays before they are able to reach the planet(got an achievement for that btw) I also placed a ton of geothermal stations on top of destroyed hives first until I had around 300MW on each of the three planets cause now I can't get any relays anymore and it's an amazing way to get power early game.

Hello. You have a great idea with capturing the planet using the (Planet Defogfer), but it will only work on easy difficulty levels. At the maximum level, when you fly to the neighboring planet, there are about x10 bases - 20 level . And these rockets are completely insufficient to destroy the base, even to survive. It would be much more interesting to observe your tactics if you raised the difficulty to introduce a challenge and necessitate a combination of defense. I think your strategies would change immediately.

Would it be possible to make the entire planetary defense grid blueprint self-building by including BABs that overlap each other? I've been including BABs in some of my BPs just for quick building. For example I have a wind-farm that I usually stamp down on a planet as a nice early boost to power, and with just one BAB in the middle, I can just place it down and leave.

The only problem I see with full missile turret coverage of the planet, is that without farming them at some point they won't gain very much exp. Without exp they won't drop some of their dark fog specific loot, which is needed for some of the new buildings/items. I guess you can set up a farm later once you have scaled a lot more though.
@Erkle64 Жыл бұрын
You can just do that on a planet in another system.
@DrProfessorRobot Жыл бұрын
I haven't completely confirmed it yet, but I think that so long as you're just chasing the Fog base buildings away rather than blowing them up, the Fog will keep on trying to colonize. To truly starve the fog and have the hive completely rendered impotent, you have to turn off its resource stream, switch your turrets to target upper atmosphere, and start blowing their planetary base packages up until the hive can't build any more. I reached that state in my world, and the hive just circled around helplessly until I teched up enough to take it out. I never saw it gain any threat rating after I destroyed its last planetary base... Then again, I've yet to build a Dyson, I was lucky enough to have a lava planet and I've been using accumulators to share the power with my forgeworld... Maybe I could have made the hive *completely* helpless by draining their ships, provoking them into attacks, then blown up the hive once all the bees were gone... I might have to try that out once I start dysoning up my intended antimatter farm system....

A lot of the things in this update are way to cumbersome, like the placement of shield towers, signal towers, turrets, battlefield analyses base, etc in the most efficient, economic way, I feel like I have to plaster my whole planet with these things to be effective, making my factories look like shit. I can't even bother to use anything but missile towers anymore for ground defense. I just paste one of my blueprints with 42 missile towers, and use signal towers to do the rest. All the other things for ground defense are just useless. Seriously why do we have battlefield analyses bases with such a short range? As a result you have to plaster your whole planet with them, or just use one farm spot, but that makes their whole concept fall battlefield analyses bases apart. And then this nonsense about the enemy bases that keep rebuilding themselves at the exact same spot, that gets tiring too, just like these turrets that need to fed with belt, chests, or combined with drones, at least give it some built in logistic distributor, or allow us to attach one to the side. Don't even get me started about these useless warning messages. Oh, there is a major attack soon being launched? I go to that planet and I don't have that temporary mini base there anymore, but by accident left one tesla tower standing, so I flew 10 light years because of a tesla tower.... what a joke. And these stupid drones attack everything in sight, the hive twice turned to 90%+ because these dumb things decided to attack it automatically, and so far the only think I've found to stop them from attacking, is to take them out of the fleet. They're good at making factory games, that's for sure, but when it comes to combat, they still got a lot to learn. Don't even get me started about how poorly everything is documented. What do those blue numbers mean in the specs of drones, they can't be bother to explain that either. And my God.... just the time you have to wait to find out whether that shield pole you just placed grew into a shield that almost perfectly melted together with other shield, that map overview of the shield isn't even all that useful. You can't even get a view of the range of a signal tower unless you touch it, but when you walk away too far, that range indicator disappears. To make matters even worse.... your factory start to look like a mess.
