The Imperial Butt Wizards put on such a great live show! Really fond memories of seeing them at Al's Bar and at The Garage. Probably have a respiratory disease from all of the black toxic smoke breathed in from the exploding stuffed animals, but it was worth it! At The Garage I just remember laughing hysterically as one of their roaming pranksters threw grapes at my face over and over. Ah those were the days. At one of the Al's gigs they started it with that same dirge and someone wheeled out a flaming pig in a wheelbarrow. A random dude pissed in the wheelbarrow as it went by. I think they ultimately got banned from every place except Al's, because there was nothing that could get destroyed at Al's.

Saw these fellas in la in 89-90. A small band named Hole opened for them. One of the most memorable shows I've seen

Senor Frogs. They set a piano on fire, inside! First saw them with "Hole" opening. The Butt wizards were amazing, tossing firecrackers in the air and the lead singer in the female Santa Clause outfit came riding in on a giant stuffed animal. Courtney Love kept bellowing into the microphone, "I don't want to strip anymore," and I don't think even really tried to "sing." The only song that Hole knew was Cinnamon Girl by Neil Young, and the male guitarist in a dress had to concentrate on his bar chords to play that song. We all thought "Hole" was one of the worst bands ever, and Courtney Love was atrocious. Who would have guessed the future for her? I heard she was really cool, but the Wizards blew me away. Thank you so much for posting this. This is a blast from the past, along with an old video of .45 Grave that I think was at Raji's on the Boulevard.

mwstaton64 Paul K is a former art history professor of mine. He's a really awesome and kind teacher. I found out right now he's concentrating on writing books rather than teaching.

oh man, we played with the Imperial butt Wizards at Al's bar in maybe 90' and they had a bunch of stuffed animals that they set on fire, and it turned into toxic death. All of a sudden everyone knew that they could die from breathing the gas put off by the stupid stuffed animals and the entire Al's bar emptied out into the street or that weird smoking area (that's where I went) and we were coughing and throwing up and were super pissed off at those guys but it was funny . those cats could put on some wild ass shows.

I remember hearing about these guys in the early 90's, I wish I would have actually had the chance to experience them live. Looks like a good time.
