Imperial Dalek CGI Replacement

'Dalek' (1988), Scene 13
A compositing test, removing the original Time War dalek from this scene and replacing it with a fully CGI Imperial dalek. I'm really happy with the result.

This is genius. You nailed everything in the sounds department, the visual of the Imperial Dalek is creepy, and most importantly, the old footage/film grain/vhs effect was just the icing on the cake. Like this episode could've come out in the 90's if the show didn't end.

Eh, the film grain loop is too short and repeats too quickly, plus it looks like film grain specifically when it should look more like tape. I know it's a pointless nitpick but I'm the sort to get a CRT just for Doctor Who so y'know, nitpicks are what I do!

You COULD have added the White+Gold and called it a day - but you also went with the green vision, their levitation sound, the extermination sound, the glowing hover-pad, and even went with the square video format (black bars and all) along with some grainy effects. Great job!

Can’t help but think this would have suited the episode better and then have the redesigns purely for the finale. Would have been an excellent bridge between the classic and the revival. Insane work!

I believe the plan originally was to have the one-off Dalek be a different design than the ones in the finale, but that idea was scrapped before production.

@@TheNickofTimethat’s correct. They wanted to have a different design for the Cult Daleks in the finale but due to the budget restraints at the time it was deemed too costly to design and produce completely different casings and so they decided to just produce more of the Bronze Daleks

If anything, it got worse when they switched to HD because it meant the blurriness of the early seasons couldn't smooth out the bad compositing anymore. It only really got back up to convincing quality in about season 10. The Whittaker era looks amazing though for the most part, and RTD2 is shaping up to look even better. Just goes to show how far we've come.

Definitely would love to see more of these. Classic variants in modern episodes, improved CGI sequences like the dalek sec one. Modern variants in classic episodes. Trying to nail that classic era filming "look" while having inserted modern variants would be a great achievement and something incredible to see.

You nailed a lot here, the effects under the fender, the sound effects, and just masking over the original time war dalek. It also really shows just how different the molds were with the 80s and the shawcraft daleks. It's funny thinking with some changes to the mesh to make it look more like a time war dalek and this would of been the timeline we could of had.

I love the whole thing with the imperial daleks flight, the way it looks and sounds sorta conveys how it isnt perfect which shows that it had recently been developed, like it was new tech for the daleks and there were a lot of kinks they needed to iron out before it worked perfectly

Hey Dalekbumps channel name SDMBBBCR means SUPER DUPER MONKEY BALL BANANA BLAST CRAZY ROLL my channel is related to super monkey ball from sega I make monkey ball videos now because i quite a monkey ball fan and like to play monkey ball games because there quite fun to play I usually make chuck e cheese videos but not anymore and Oh I almost forgot to tell you and it's a long story and I didn't actually went to chuck e cheese to make the videos of it I made the videos of my chuck e cheese characters out of clay model and painted them I also made them bigger and added straws as there arms and neck so they have arm movements and head and pencils for they're legs I should have used straws instead of the pencil for they're leg to have leg movement but the straws won't hold they're feet and keeps coming off and also I made the cec characters in a game called Miitopia and i made all of the cec charaters which I done making them in Miitopia and now I have the monkey ball characters in Miitopia but I didnt get rid of the cec charaters because I did hard work on them and also I built the chuck e cheese building in minecraft and it's big as a mall and built the statues of the cec characters all around the pizzeria and I work hard on that too and also i built a chuck e cheese animatronic figure out of lego and usually it was ugly small and have less movement and then i made it look better have more movement and a bit bigger and made videos of it too to I was gonna make more of the cec clay model characters but since I stop and do monkey ball videos now Also I have alot of cec videos and alot short videos too I have some of the monkey ball videos now and usually my channel was named ChuckyCheezitsPizzaChannel2007 before was change to (SUPER DUPER) (MONKEY BALL) (BANANA BLAST CRAZY ROLL) my channel icon usually have a picture of my chuck e clay model in a portrait i made and use boxes to make the portrait for chuck before it was change the icon to a picture of Aiai i made in Miitopia on my icon now and the backdrop usually have the pictures of my chuck e and the others cec main characters clay model before the backdrop was change to Aiai and the other monkey ball main characters I made in Miitopia now and my community has my drawing art of the monkey ball characters I drew but they wasn't colored because i dont have canyons to colored them and also theres the pictures of the monkey ball characters i made in Miitopia too. And one more thing to say I do the Gamecube Super Monkey Ball games videos on the dolphin emulator, but i made the games have better colorings, lighting, and better darkness design, including the cutscenes from the Super Monkey Ball 2 video. (Well in the video itself the video doesn't have better revolution you can barely see the good better coloring, lighting and better darkness design because its a bit too bright but in gameplay in person you can see better.) The scenes I think everyone would like to see with the imperial dalek. #1 dalek destruction, where the dalek kills a group of soldiers trying to stop it, make sure you add the photoshopped looked skeletons, and yellow laser. #2, the scene after this video, where the dalek takes on a whole army, first it hovers then shoots a fire extinguish lever, where sprinklers turn on, and then shoots the floor electrocuting everyone touching the floor, then shooting the catwalk to electrocute everyone on the catwalk. Make sure the electricity is yellow to match the gun laser. Do these scenes please, because your work is amazing and a lot of people would love to see these.

Excellent work. Wasn't the original plan to have an imperial dalek, instead of the time war one, then introduce the new design at the end of the series? I understand why they didn't but it would have been a nice way to tie the eras together.

I think they went with the time war dalek right from the beginning. They built the one, and then built a few more to use in the finale, which is why the one in this story looks so different to every other time war dalek.

The original script was going to have the spider Dalek crawling through air vents killing people, before finding it's battle tank. PS. a rejected Dr Who script was used for the 1998 Lost In Space, movie, with this plot idea.
