One of the reasons the Empress accepted the Crown Prince's proposal was because she believed it was her mission to deepen the Imperial Family's friendship with overseas countries. She suffered under the pressure to give birth to a boy, and was banned from official duties overseas until she gave birth to a baby BOY, not girl. This was probably the wish of the higher-ranking members of the Imperial family who envied and UPSET about Crown Princess' talent. Under Japanese law, succession to the throne is limited to men. Masako's suffering was tremendous, but luckily the IF gained a treasure ーPrincess Aiko.
