Hey coach any college finishing drills cause all these other finishing drills on KZbin are bs
@joshsmilerbasketball Жыл бұрын
Practice finishing more in games! The Milan drill and such are great, but once you have a basic touch down, it's best to play against live defense!

Hey, I just finished my freshman hs season. Some ppl are saying I should focus on myself get better, stronger, and faster for next hs year, but more ppl are saying I should play aau for the competition and so I can apply my skills to the game. I tried out for team rose in Chicago, but I don’t think I made it. 2 teams tried to recruit me. Midwest Renegades which are farther away from where I live (45 min) and Vikings United (like 15 min) they play in good circuits but I’m not sure how to choose which one to join. I’m 6’4 and 14 years old. Not that athletic (almost dunking) but I can shoot a bit, grab rebounds, and finish at the rim. My defense is ok but I need to get stronger and faster for it to be better.

youre 6'4 at 14 bro. you need to work on your shot, handle, and be able to absorb contact. you dont need to put on a ton of muscle or weight, you need another year or two of skills development. choose which one would fit your skillset the best

@@ry_an. I think developing handles would help my scoring ability cuz I can shoot pretty well, I just can’t create space or handle the pressure when bringing the ball up. Thanks for responding to my question

Tips for tryouts?
@joshsmilerbasketball Жыл бұрын
1. Hustle- be a great defender, dive for loose balls, sprint the floor, do YOUR Best 2. Do what you do well- if your a shooter, don’t try to post up. Get to your spots and hit the open shots! 3. Control what you can control- effort and attitude. You cant control whether the shots go in, only how you respond

If I haven’t played organized basketball before should I play aau?
@joshsmilerbasketball Жыл бұрын
Are you looking to improve your basketball IQ? AAU is primarily for gaining basketball IQ, but if you’d rather develop your overall skills, that time AND $ is better worth spending on skill development.

If you play AAU this spring/summer would you get a College offer? If that answer is Yes, go ahead but you have to get on a team that will let you play in front of college coaches. If that answer is No, grind all spring/summer and work on your skill development. If you never played organized basketball, I will say watch a lot of college basketball and play on a low level aau team that have local tournaments to get a little game experience.

Hey so I'm wondering. There are a handful of AAU teams in my area and I would like to try out for one, whether it's an independent team or a circuit team. But the truth is, I'm not exactly the best player nor am I too great compared to most of my peers on my high school's team. I was thinking if I should play AAU while at the same time training all spring and summer and working on my game. Is this possible to do? And is it a good option? Thanks in advance.
@joshsmilerbasketball Жыл бұрын
With usually 2 AAU practices a week, and tournaments on the weekends, you will have plenty of time to still get skill work in. In my case, I played AAU last year even though I wasn't the best, and it definitely helped. At the end of the day, the air outside only guards you so much! You will probably learn more competing in AAU than trying to get by that cone!
