+Scott Haun That's the Tandy 102, introduced in 1983, I believe. The first laptop, and it only needs 4 AA batteries.

That's correct.

I had a Tandy/Dragon hybrid computer I High School in 1982 and was programming in BASIC just like this. Wish I still had it.

+Designs By Philip You've better graphics on the C64 than the 102.

Remember back in the old days when you couldn't just copy/paste from stackoverflow to write code? Those were good times. Mad props for digging out to old T102. I had one in my old job. Kept it on the "museum shelf" with the Apple ][e and Classic Mac. Put fresh batteries in it when we found it. Still worked great.

Whats funny is that the computer that took the men to the moon has less power then that Tandy 102
@monkwerks7 жыл бұрын
+Mr_Krasker it's not the size of the CPU ...

Was that a TI99/4A reference in the REM statement?! Wow! what a blast from the past. The TI-99/4A was my very first computer for Christmas, 3rd grade . I didn't know how to program, or even how to spell QWERTY, yet, but i stayed up until 3 am on Xmas night, one-finger peck-typing the BASIC example from the manual (it was a "guess the random number" game), but i could only find the LIST command and couldn't get the machine to run my code. I tried typing "GO", "PLAY" "PLAY the GAME", "CAN I PLAY THE GAME?",and whatever else I could think of for another hour The only reply I got was "Invalid syntax" which meant absolutely nothing to a 9 year old in 1982. Mom finally sent me to bed before I could figure out that you needed to type "RUN" to execute the code.. Next morning, I had a tear-filled meltdown , when I found out she had turned the power switch off("so it wouldn't burn the house down"). And I'd lost everything i had typed, because this was before I had saved up my allowance to get the upgraded audio cable , which could save the entire 256 bytes of RAM to "permanent storage" ...which was.a cassette tape! It sound like a modem, which you recorded on the cassette before you powered down, then played back to the computer to"load" from your "saved code" cassette, It was all so high-tech to me! LOL . Good times! Thank you for the wonderful dose of nostalgia, Fr. Thomas!

Takes me back to my youth with my old computers of the early 80's. I had a Commodore VIC 20, 64, and later a 128. If I'm not mistaken, the Tandy was offered by Radio Shack?

😂 I really wanted to answer this Basic program with a single *NIX shell line. I'm just too tired tonight to get it to work. We are all eager to see the next update on the teardrop trailer project. It's a bit too tight for the schedule but that would have been great to see it this weekend at SF Maker Faire.
