I have a copy of the psychedelic album. I brought it in Australia. Australia does good packaging of her album. I think the shop was HUM on Oxford Street

It should have been her 'Ray of Light' shame really, I guess it didn't have the dance vibes of ROL and was a bit dark for 'normal' fans.

Being honest the first time I listened to the album I didn’t like it, but a few months later I listened to it again and I started to warm to it. It’s definitely not an album you just have on in the background, it’s one you really have to be in the mood for to listen to and truly enjoy. Often when I’m feeling low or in a dark place I put it on and it’s a great experience. My favorite tracks are Breathe, Jump, Limbo, Through The Yeara and Too Far

Love love love every single moment of all your trips down memory lane and revisiting Kylie’s albums. Congratulations and thank you on a job well done. The “Impossible Princess” album is Kylie’s most intriguing album. For me none of the songs were really singles but as a collective they made the journey of listening to the album from beginning to end magical. This is the first time I really paid so much attention to each song due to the lyrical content and musicality. It’s the first kylie album that should and must be played in its entirety to understand its story and landscape

2WAYFM I listen to it a few times a year. It’s not like her other albums I can just put on and enjoy. You were right saying you have to be in a certain mood. I do remember the critics saying kylie had finally found her voice with this album. And they meant her singing voice. That she had more expression singing than ever before

I very insightful and interesting look back on Kylie’s wonderful album Impossible Princess. IP may have performed badly on the charts in many territories but it was a huge hit in Australia! IP did so well in Oz it led Kylie back to live touring via Intimate And Live. Great to hear honest thoughts on the album- but I do love Some Kind Of Bliss.

This album is a piece of art, every track has its personality and they are very edgy, in terms of artistic and creative path she was taking, there's no doubt this album is her Master piece, although, I have to say it almost achieve the cohesive part of it, but, there are 2 or 3 tracks I'm still thinking are a bit out of place, ["Fever" I believe is her more cohesive album to date] writing here is very personal and the sound gives it an outstanding final work, lyrics are so good in all this album, as you mentioned poetry... "Drunk" is my favorite track the progression of the song is outstanding and the trip top sound makes it sound edgy, as well, as "Limbo" but, "Drunk" the way it plays with the lyrics.... wow, outstanding album! Her master piece so far, "Golden" has achieved cohesion and lyrics, it sounds very personal to me but, with a twist of fun, I would say, "Golden" is in my top 3 now.

You guys summed it up so well... Thank you!!!! Absolutely love this album and this era was career changing for Kylie . Certainly in Australia she finally received the acclaim respect and credibility that had alluded her up until that point and critics were finally silenced!!! As for the Intimate and Live shows, as a fan that was simply an incredible time for us in Oz. The adoration and love that she received from media, fans around during and after the live shows was beyond amazing!!! Truly a very special era which changed her career and she would then go onto to become a major touring artist born out of Intimate And Live. The album lyrically and musically is outstanding !!!! It's a shame the media dubbed IP with the indie tag, because it's more electronica than anything else. It's an album that was so misunderstood at the time and years ahead of its time. Kylie was pushing for Too Far to be a single hence the remixes were done. However, it only received a white label release on vinyl which I picked up at a record store on Chapel Street Melbourne.

This album needs a vinyl reissue and also a deluxe cd version with all those unreleased tracks , Let It Go, You're The One, Take me With You, German Bold Italic (added), Sometime Samurai, Free, Looking Down On Me, Soon, Be Til I'm Over, Miles, Fallen Angel, Something We Started, Prisoner Of Time, and the two Olive tracks Into Myself (early SKOB) and Sweetest Summer (early version of Limbo). She should also add The Real Thing as it has that indie Kylie sound.

Ah I wish I'd caught onto these reviews earlier as this is, as we all know a very defining album for Kylie. One big question I have - do you think that she's proud of this album now? Looking back after all of these years? I remember during the time of 'Aphrodite' promotion where she was asked about this album and its success...her response was very much on the line that she was annoyed about how it is now considered great but wasn't so appreciated at the time. I think the whole album is good to listen to from beginning to end, although again I'm unsure about the single choices. I really like 'Breathe' (which now seems to be the most popular) but not too keen on 'Some Kind Of Bliss' or 'Did It Again'. I think a really good lead single would have been 'Through The Years'; I'm not sure if it would have been a commercial smash, but that vocal, beat and melody is reminiscent of some of her previous work but obviously representative of the newer sound at this time too. I think 'Limbo' would have been a great single as well, although maybe a bit too much for a lead single. I love 'Say Hey' (sorry half of Kylie fans!). Also very impressed by 'Too Far' and 'Dreams' - great opener/closer! A great album - my only request Kylie - please be a bit braver and perform some songs from this (even just 1 song!) on tour. It's a shame that she stays in her comfort zone of 90% 'Light Years' onwards old songs for her tour. You should appreciate your fantastic work more! UK charts Album #10 (certainly wouldn't call that a failure) Some Kind Of Bliss #22 (first single not to peak within the top 20, although of course this coincided with very sad circumstances in the news, but a more suitable song that represented 'Impossible Princess' better may have been more successful) Did It Again #14 Breathe #14 Cowboy Style wasn't released in the UK (Kylie's first album to have no UK top ten singles)

Hey, cool review. You're right about the meaning behind Limbo. Kylie was having travel issues (possibly something to with a visa), and was really wanting to get to France (I think) to see Stéphane Sednaoui.

I like this album like I enjoy Madonna’s erotica. They’re both very good albums but there is a hipster vibe to them im the sense that we all want to sound like we loved them on the day of their release 🙄 I feel like (with the benefit of hindsight) this album needed Confide with Me as it’s lead single. It’s like a Dido or Adele album. Not one you could listen to every day like Madonna’s 1st album

each to their own but this is her best album in my opinion, the first time i listened there were some song's i loved from start to finish whilst there were others i only liked certain aspects of but because of how much i liked those things i came back to the album. on my second listen i liked a couple of songs that went over my head the first time, then on my third listen i started to realise how cohesive the production really is. impossible princess shaped my music taste for sure, it got me into trip hop which i didn't really know a thing about before. "breathe", "jump", "through the years", "dreams" and "love takes over me" sound similar, "too far", "say hey", "drunk", "limbo" and "tears" sound similar, "did it again", "cowboy style", "i don't need anyone" and "some kind of bliss" sound similar. "this girl" is a cute track, i enjoy it for what it is but we didn't need it, "free" which didn't make the album would've made a lot more sense. i personally wish she went back to this type of production, now a days if she released a project like this it would be way more successful than back then, she was ahead of her time!.

First, I'm not a Kylie's fan. But I thought I would loved this album, because I like more artistic things in music. I love Ray Of Light and I like Björk's music. And I try to dive into that album, but I don't love it. It's suprised me. But I'm happy that she could made this album and album artwork is fantastic - probably her best. I find Breathe really good. And the live versions of Cowboy Style, Too Far and Dreams from Homecoming Tour. I think it could have been interesting, when she would continue that road from this album. This Kylie is way more interesting that typical pop-Kylie.

Nice review although I don't share the love for this album, it's not what I love about Kylie at all although I love that is shows her talent for song writing. Having been at Gorilla this week for the Golden showcase I think we are about to get the perfect album of lyrical depth and catchy pop tunes that we've all been waiting for. Btw, I have a new love and respect for Breathe after hearing it performed live this week, just stunning.

A shit album which sounds like an unfortunate collection of Ray of Light's B-sides although it was released earlier than ROL. Always the inferior version of Madonna. . .it's understandable why her fans are wretched

people need to stop saying "impossible princess sounds like ray of light", ray of light sounds like impossible princess. why does the world act like kylie copied madonna when ray of light didn't even exist when impossible princess dropped?. they're both great albums but the obsession with comparing kylies work to madonnas in a negative way is bizarre. let's not forget how long impossible princess was delayed for, all the songs had been done for ages before the release.
