Being an artist myself I have to comment and say don't apologize for how you creatively express yourself. I thought this was amazing!! I loved the symbolism of it and the expression of what I saw as heartbreak for how this world is being treated.

I was just talking to my daughter about the fakeness of everything and how we’ve lost so much good because nothing is natural anymore my grandfather would plant this huge garden every year I was so fortunate as a child to eat such wonderful items of food from his garden I so remember the wonderful tastes that seem to no longer exists

You are all over my Amer. Lit. curriculum from last semester, Nik. We completed a session in my independent study about this same subject using social media pic posts as one point of focus. Our culture has become one that fakes and sells happiness...and perfection so easily....especially happiness which seems a bit mass produced. My *very upper* middle class white students had a blast analyzing Dick & Jane and Shirley Temple in The Bluest Eye by Toni Morrison but ultimately came around to look at fake happiness in their own generation and the challenges ... the difficulty of pretending all the time. The discussions were unforgettable. Beautiful assemblage ... you make creating this box look so simple..... really love that there's always something complex to take away from your art ... from your art process.

Beautiful work, Nik. Interesting that your view and the other 210 comments I read are so similar to my thoughts of our current world. I shop primarily at thrift stores, grow my own veggies and can them, and steer waaaay clear of social media. I love the kinship I feel with the junk journal community I have found online. The value that is placed on old beautiful things that are truly real!

I think you are highly intelligent and extremely gifted. Great piece. It wasn,t dark, it was an indictment against the type of frauds that face us every day. Good girl, keep it up. I watch animal rescue videos every day, including saving baby elephants. One thing is apparent. People can be good, but they can be hellishly bad. Your piece gently touches on peoples naughty behavior. Including the money element was critical to your creative process. You are an artist!

You hit the nail on the head. I was once asked what I thought the root of all evil is. My reply was, "Greed". This piece of art reflects reality. It IS real. I love this! Thank you so much for sharing! My grandma (who just passed away this week) is full Native American. Even though she grew up during a period that being Native was bad, she still learned at lot of the values and was able to pass them on to me. She would have adored this! She definitely believed in nature and natural things. I've been looking for a piece that I could make to honor her. You've inspired me to go the 3d route, with some similar themes, but some different as well. Thank you so much for the inspiration! And your piece is not dark in my eyes, it is truthful. I see the truth as light. If you don't see truth, you are definitely in the dark. Thank you for all you do! ❤

I watched this when it first posted, I loved it then...as I do now. This second time around it means more. My 28 year old, only child passed away in February. My single genuine egg is gone, I'm painfully aware, as the birds are in your art. Nothing seems real, it's a bad dream, but it is reality. Cold and as hard as hard plastic. I took a screen shot to use as my iPad background. Beautifully honest artwork Nik the Booksmith.

No need to apologise, this is amazing. A very strong and important message contained in a little square wooden box that might have come from a tree felled in the Brazilian Rainforest, pushing out the animals and insects that lived in it. No apology needed as far as I'm concern, it's art and that is what art does. I must say, that the moment that I seen the word Imposter and when you mentioned the word counterfeit, I knew your assemblage was inspired by your own personal feelings or experiences of some kind of fakeness in your life and you were compelled to express it by way of this piece. Maybe I'm wrong, but as a writer of poetry, I sense that. I wrote a poem about an ERSATZ that I was compelled to write due to some fakeness in my life. I feel that piece speaks volumes, more than you are willing to express to us in words. I love art that speaks and I love this piece. Thank you for sharing. I

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE! I so agree with all of that and I think your assemblage does a great job of expressing it. This is art with a message--my favorite kind of art. I do mixed media collages which generally have a disturbing message. It's a way of processing all that counterfeit stuff out there and, hopefully, stirs up others to think about what's really going on out there and maybe decide to make changes in their own lives if necessary. Thank you so much for sharing!! Can't wait to see more.

Very interesting piece. It reminds of the faux fur craze that is adorning our hoods, bobble hats and keyrings at present. We all only want faux fur right, and it says it's faux fur, but turns out they are often made with real fur from China, as that's cheaper than faux fur. I've seen programmes showing you how to test if it's real by blowing on it, also looking at the tips and parting it to see the base. What a sad carry on! Tfs xx
