@@DrHouse-zs9ebI bet you it’s not camera based. I bet you it detects its physical location and has the weight and mass of the ball calculated. I think the joints are angular and are rotated in very specific angles in order to manipulate the ping pong ball. The most impressive part is when it stopped the ball from full bounce without it bouncing again. That takes an immense level of engineering and physics prowess.

@@Evanzealotry no it definitely has to be a camera on top, you can even see bars at each side, there s not here for nothing. No way something like that has not at least one camera sensor, no way. How would it know the position, velocity, direction, … of the ball without a camera that could predict his position and so on. Lots of programmation and algorithme, maybe some « touch » sensors and def camera (can see the position in height by angular size calculation, or with a laser…) Impressive robot for sure

I love these demos. I used to see them all the time growing up and neglected them. Then I started studying engineering, and man. The physics to calculate the impulse on the ball to bounce it, the control systems used to accurately move it to every vertex, the shear speed of the actuators, its all just amazingly beautiful!

Сам и отвечу , видно две больших штанги и если там стоит камера - это легко . А вот это реализовать на сенсорах ультразвуковых в платформе или на инерциальных датчиках - задача мега сложная

Dunno much about robotics, but that can’t be a reactive mechanism. It probably works off some model that factors in the weight of the ball, so they can set a program to move it however they want. It’s pre-programmed, not running realtime.

Там скорей всего вообще из-за прогноза все работает, т.е. в начале замер веса может и идёт, а дальше в зависимости от силы удара прогнозируется направление и время полёта и в зависимости о предполагаемого приземления идёт следующее движение и получается, что теоретически( в слепую ) пинается мяч. Но опять же, просто мысль, реализовать можно по разному

I'm wondering about the portion of the control loop where the ball's location is solved. In my mind, its either those poles on the sides with some kind of visual system, or the change in resistance the actuators feel due to the ball's location/weight//bounce impact site. But the latter seams like it would be harder to put into practice due to the reduction of location data between bounces. Impressive regardless of how it was done. Very nice.
