You should ALWAYS get the tow package even if you don't need it. You're going to have better gearing a lot of the times with any particular vehicle and you will also have a transmission cooler... So for those two reasons you're transmission is probably going to last longer if you get the tow package... so I would always say get the tow package whether you need it or not. I think your vehicle will last longer if you get the tow package...

After reading the owners manual…. I have found that the 4K is capable up to 4,400 lbs. of course this does not take into account driver weight and occupancy. Very capable truck! Yeah, I said it. Truck.

My maverick isn’t the fx4 but has the towing package and is xlt. Trying to tow 21 ft boat with some gear in the truck do you think not having the fx4 package will make a difference?

I’d say it probably depends on a few things. The type of boat you have and the environment you plan to drive through. I’m sure the FX4 shocks help with a smoother ride when towing heavier weights in rougher terrain or roads. The All terrain tires of the FX4 may also provide better traction than the stock tires. How heavy is the boat?

I'm hearing reports of the CVT's in those things failing at around 70k, usually due to people towing stuff. I honestly don't think that little truck was made for real work, just small household chores, maybe pulling a small 5x8 trailer with mulch in it. i wouldn't use it for bigger stuff. you can get a base model f150 standard cab for what the mav costs and it will pull way more.

4k towing comes with 8 speed auto not a cvt and different rear end ratios

@@DaleDoesItAll There's a video of kid with the same model, whose transmission went out at 90k miles, he drove it a lot, but don't know if he did any towing because I'm just now starting to research on this truck.

I think that may be Daniel deliverz. He did have some issues with his Mav. I know he hauled things with his. Honestly I hardly ever pull anything with it. Of If I do, it’s rare. However I enjoy having the ability to do so.

@@DaleDoesItAll Yup, that's the kid I was referencing. Your video is great, it gives credit to the small truck. The concern for me is that I'm starting a pressure washing business with a 5x10 utility trailer, and hauling the equipment that weights roughly 7500 lbs, could cause the transmission to have issues in just like Daniel's video.
