Improper Hardie Plank Siding Installation - No Joint Flashing Causing Mold & Wood Framing Decay

I've torn off more Hardy board siding in the last 5 yrs than any other product..Even when flashed/ caulked (installed)correctly.. The biggest issue is it doesn't handle expansion/contraction and house settling or shifting well at all and creates lots of mold,and rot issues..atleast here in the north where weather is extreme in both climates of hot and cold and we see the most extremes on exterior and foundation of houses overall.

never trusted it. been retired from remodeling homes for quite some time. maybe they changed since a little over 20 years ago. but it was the first time i installed it. i don't trust new products. that said i cut a small piece and set in a bucket of water overnight. the next morning it turned to mush. how's this stuff supposed to last decades?

@@leeb.7188 depends on the budget. vinyl is long lasting, probably the most affordable. i have aluminum siding on my house. been there for 50 years with absolutely nothing wrong but a little paint fade from the factory coating. as for wood, either cedar or redwood. both last a very long time so long as it's taken care of. and both are bug and rot resistant. then of course brick. edit to add. i'm a 40+ year, retired now home remodeling contractor. and i highly recommend getting a proven good contractor for any job. a bad one will ruin any product.
