Frank - Thanks for the kind words. Yes, I definitely recommend watching the deep dive to learn more about this. Jess is so knowledgeable and shares so many great insights. Thanks for watching.

Love this! I used to think I need to improvise like other people fid. We are at our best when we are our most selves. Thanks for sharing!

Comments are turned off on the deep dive. I want to offer up how I go about ensuring my group is always doing games and exercises they want to do. I developed this specifically to even the playing field between those who are loud about what they want versus those who may be more quiet. I think it could help in this context as well. What I do after warm up is allow everyone to pull a card from a deck of cards to ensure random distribution. This establishes our itinerary for the session. We work from the top card down. Each person in turn gets to pick the next game/exercise we do. In this way, we are assured of doing things people enjoy every session. I find it also gives people more of a feeling of ownership, and those feelings in turn make people feel comfortable to address issues that come up.

Jason, thanks for this great idea. The comments are reactivated on the Deep Dive video. (Not sure how/why they were off) Would it be okay with you if I cut and paste this comment over to that video so people can find it more easily.

I’d love more specifics on how to match or play off other people’s speed/dynamics cause this can cause a lot of stress when you’re going slow and other people are not giving you the time/silence to keep going at your pace and getting everything out that you need to get out. I run into this problem often!

I have the same problem, with feeling like some other improvisers are just steamrolling the scene. Practicing those situations helps. Even if your fellow improviser doesn't see you, the audience does. You're still there, you're still important. If you play with a motormouth, relax. Know that you don't actually need to talk. Or at least not much. Your silence becomes very valuable. They will give you plenty of time to focus on object work and reacting emotionally to what they say and do. When I feel like I need to get something out, I will get frustrated. So I try to not need to say anything, but instead just be in the scene and respond in the moment. Practicing 7 words or less can also be pretty valuable. Both for yourself and for the rest of your group. (Each line you have is 7 words or less. And once you've spoken it's your partner's turn.)

MHasnaM - This is a great question. I will look into it and try to offer something in an upcoming video. Thanks for watching and commenting.

Håvard - Thanks for the great suggestion. 7 Words is a fantastic idea for practicing a different tempo of scenes and spreading the focus around a little bit.
