Hand raised! I love to see a scene that has a grounding in some sort of reality so I'm happy to be the straight guy. I find that can be done and also heighten the scene. Thank you for this tip (or validation).

I like this. I suppose re-grounding (justifying?) can be considered as a way of accepting the zany offer. We used to do a warm up\beginners exercise of "jump and justify" - two players one thinks of a pose\action, the other chooses a line of dialogue, both execute together, then they have 2 more lines to make sense of it. I might suggest that again to our Director. Any other ideas for good exercises to practice grounding?

Damian - that sounds like a fun exercise. There's another one I've done sort of similar. One person starts on stage doing a really obvious action then the next player comes in and takes it in a completely different direction. For example: The first player is painting a wall. The second player enters with, "Donna, that ship is long gone. He can't even see you waving any more.) So the second player has kind of justified the first player's action in a completely new way now they've got to justify Why she is still waving etc.
