Have had my Claasic 98 a few weeks the Classic 99 was anounced the day after my 98 arrived. I can't imagine how loud the 99 would be. I definatly will be adding another 98! These are amazing.

Hola. I bought years ago a pair of Britannia 1 subwoofers from REL. Never looked back. They are the most natural sounding real subwoofers I ever heard and that included SVS, Velodynes and JL. They were the only front firing subwoofers from REL that I know off and where truly marvelous. For better in room response and to correct any dips or spikes in frequency respond I recommend placing the subs along the side walls facing your sitting position. Try it, you will be greatly rewarded with deeper bass and a smoother response. also find the -3db low frequency cut off of your main speaker and set the REL 10 hz higher for better integration (a couple of hz. higher or lower won’t hurt). Enjoy!

I have a pair of Harbeth Compact 7es-3 in a 300 sq foot space. Using a Parasound Halo Integrated. I am really torn between the Classic 99 and the s510. I will eventually have a pair of either one I choose but will only start with (1). As someone that has had experience with both the Classic 99 and the S510 which way would you tend to lean? Ultimately I feel the Classic 99's look would really compliment the Harbeth's better. However sound is the ultimate test. Thanks for any info regarding the 2.

Can this subwoofer be paired with a pair of Klipsch AL5's driven by a PrimaLuna EVO 300 integrated tube amplifier? I ask because I am unsure if there's enough power being sent to the speakers to activate the subwoofer. It takes very little turn of the volume knob to fill the room with sound given how efficient the speakers are. Any thoughts?

I’m running 2 SVS subs with my LaScalas. When I’m using one of my amps without an adjustable RCA output I use the high level speaker inputs. I have had success running them that way. May need to turn up the sub volume a bit. With my 2 - 12” subs I’m at about 60% volume on the subs.

One advantage of a Subwoofer and standmount speaker is you csn optimise the best place in a room for the bass.. Conversely , you can't do that with a floorstander. You are stuck with the Bass Driver being below the tweeter, and sometimes depending on your room, that isn't the ideal location for it.
@mitchellburns922 ай бұрын
Are you saying some rooms may require to have the hight of the subwoofer at the same height of the speakers tweeter? Rel specifically design the feet of their subs to the millimeter for SQ, why then raise the subwoofer? Keep the tweeter at ear level and sub positioned on the floor where it blends.
@bryanwilliams36652 ай бұрын
@@mitchellburns92 Thats exactly right . (what REL are doing) Yet in a floorstanding or standmount speaker, you don't have that luxury.. The Bass driver is stuck with the tweeter in a cabinet . There is zero flexibility in their relationship to each other distance wise. .In my large standmounts, the woofer is some 600mm or so off the ground which is normal.That can't be changed....Completely different setup to a standalone subwoofer.

I was going to ask the same question….I think though it may have to do with the lowest crossover point of the Classic 99 being 30 hz..if the crossover point went just a little lower it may blend better with speakers that go a little under 30hz(i have a Rel R528(lowest crossover setting is 30hz) that will not gel with my Cremona Ms ….that go below 30hz….. I get too much bass in the 30-40 hz range when using the sub..on the lowest volume…..just a thought….maybe the Classic 99 and X2 is doing a similar thing

How do you connect a subwoofer without any components with sub out or anything?
@mitchellburns922 ай бұрын
High level connection - it uses the amplifiers binding posts to connect to the rel, this doesn’t draw any of your amp’s power. Can also connect the high level to your speakers binding posts which sends that signal to the rel where it’s stepped down.
@tothemax3242 ай бұрын
@@mitchellburns92 Hi, what do you mean by 'stepped down' as I have 2 Rels connected from speaker BP's, thanks
@mitchellburns922 ай бұрын
@@tothemax324 same thing with what’s happening when it’s connected directly to your power amp or integrated amp. That high voltage signal is stepped down through a passive resistance ladder matrix (input filter blocks), then that voltage signal once stepped down is then sent to the rels amplifier and then out the driver. Sorry should have made that more clear in my previous comment. If coming off the speakers I’d still ground the high level connection to the amplifier.

for 2k€ you can build 4x Subwoofer with 60 L Cabinets with high quality scanspeak chassis who destroy this REL in every category. Totally overpriced for what it is. The musicality & punch comes firstly how you set it up via DSP, not if their is a REL or SVS logo on the front - its not so difficult to build a sub. And its always better to use at least 2x Subs, better 4x (Array solution) and than your in a Pricecategory where the REL realy costs you way too much.
