This video is a great one for my section, thanks for sharing! The added tuner to this tongue trick is a staple.

AbbeyCatastrophe Great Idea - this would work well in a clarinet sectional and would be quite fast to go down a line of clarinetists with one person holding the tuner. I hope it helps the section play better together.

Hey thanks for the awesome video! Do you have any tips on playing the Eb clarinet? I am trying to learn how to play the Eb by myself and it would be great if I had some tips. Thank you :)

Hi Michelle, do you have any tips or like a heads up on what to expect from switching to a bass clarinet from a Bb clarinet?
@ClarinetMentors9 жыл бұрын
+amcheung10 Good question - I have the opposite on video. In a way, if you watched that, I do discuss the differences, so it may help. kzbin.info/www/bejne/iYrKYq15hdmVg6M . Other than that, the Bb clarinet generally needs faster air than the bass, your embouchure will be smaller (but basically the same shape), and you may find that you use slightly stronger reeds. Also, the tongue position, or voicing is different - and the video on this page helps you with that.

My high C is about 10 cents flatter than my high G, A, and B (which are all pretty much in tune). What do you think is wrong?

Hi I have a question irrelevant to the video on mouth pieces and reeds. What combination do you use
@ClarinetMentors9 жыл бұрын
+Matthew Lara I use a Backun Mouthpiece with either Steuer Exclusive reeds or Vandoren V12 or Rue 56. I also use a Silverstein ligature.

What would be a good tuner? I have found only 1 that works with Windows 10. I think it only worked with guitars. Seams that most are only for Guitars and Violins. And it did not work at all with my clarinet. Is this one any good? Korg TM-60 Tuner/Metronome - Black. I have given up on finding one for my PC and I don't have a smart phone.

If I change my clarinet bell to a wooden bell on an intermediate clarinet will it sound better?
@ClarinetMentors9 жыл бұрын
Kasai Tanco I would try finding a better wooden barrel first. I have had students with a wooden intermediate clarinet that upgrade to a professional barrel and bell (such as the Backun Moba series) and I find that their instrument often sounds like some of the lower professional level horns "out of the box". It is a good upgrade for your clarinet. Since every piece of wood responds differently, it is ideal if you can play test a few to find a combination with the sound that you like. I've also had students with plastic clarinets put on a wooden barrel and it really warms up the sound of the instrument considerably.

thanks alot and I bought it cocobolo wooden adjustable barrel and wooden cocobolo bell and it sounds great. im from puerto rico and i play in the conservatory of music and didnt have enough money to buy me a professional buffet full boehm clarinet so i got an intermidiate clarinet and I feel very satesfied with all the lessons you give you have made me a better clarinet player. Im in a level that i would have never dreamed of keep up the good work and when I graduate you will probably see me in the Pablo Casals Classical Music Festival.

Hello I know I ask a lot of questions but I wanted to ask something, so I have this chair test coming up some for concert band and I'm not the best at playing clarinet and I think we have to play it I front of the class and I really don't want to mess up and I'm guessing that we are going to practice for like 10 minutes and play but how do I play without messing up and making a fool out of myself because I know a lot of people are going to laugh at me 😔😔😔

Hello! In my audition music this year, I have octave jumps for a whole line .-. And I cant seem to perfect it. I jump from a low D to a middle D , which is easy enough. It's basically a chromatic thing. The next octave jump is an E flat to and E flat, and this is the jump I have most problems with. Do you have any tips for jumping from octave to octave and also for making your fingers fast enough to go from middle D to e flat? I'm looking for some exercises ^-^

There's free mobile phone apps that do the same. My neighbour tested the one on my phone with his guitar & it worked.

hoping my tongue stud's not a problem.
@ClarinetMentors9 жыл бұрын
+jenny bailey Hi Jenny - I think this would be unlikely to have a big effect on the tone if your tongue is in a good position. I had a student who played with a big retainer in her mouth, and still sounded very good.
