In this video, I take a deep but simplified dive into the evidence-based strategy of Task Specific Training and how to use it to improve hand function after a stroke. I cover the 5 “R’s” of Task Specific Training and give specific examples of how you can use them in your own recovery.
After watching this video, you’ll understand how to therapeutically set up activities at home so you can work on your recovery even if you don’t have access to therapy.

Hi dr. Elyse, I don't have any movement in my left arm. I always use my right hand to help my affected arm in doing my daily activities at home. Thanks for another great video. You encourage me to keep going and don't give up. I'M.. #BRAINAVMSURVIVOR #STROKESURVIVOR #NINEYEARS AND PROGRESSING

Thank you. I actually hate exercises that have no meaning cause i get bored. I like incorporating my activities for therapy. I love cooking, baking, and cleaning. I’ve been sitting in front of my piano, and just close my eyes and imagining. I dont know how to get my right hand to play 😭, they get so stiff when i try to play.

My 82yo mom loved playing the piano but now doesn't even want to sit in front of the piano. The right hand is also weak however it seems she is finding it difficult to connect with the music in her head too. I would love to learn how more to encourage her to try the piano again as I know how healing music can be.

Can you please talk about synergy pattern and how we can break it ? I can keep my hand straight while walking or doing easy activities, but as soon as I do something complex my elbow flexes up, it makes my very conscious and then it gets more difficult to control the involuntary moment.
