I also struggled with it for years. Due to bullying at 16-18. Your self esteem plummets. The thing that gave me a boost was going to bars and clubs and meeting girls my age. The fact girls thought I was attractive was a massive ego boost and kind of sorted me out. Been with my partner for over 30 year now.

Thanks for sharing your journey. It’s awesome to hear how you bounced back and rebuilt your self-esteem after a tough time. And it’s great that you turned those interactions into something positive. Congrats on your long-lasting relationship! Here is to many more years 🙌

I felt just like you Laurie, the fact that we didn't get much practice coming out of the pandemic a few years ago, I'm really learning to be socially open again and overcoming this anxiety. This video was so helpful.

Great Laurie, this is one heck of a video on handling conversations with strangers or anyone for that matter!! Fantastic insights really on how to keep it going and I enjoyed it to the core. Here I remember the Legendary Les Brown's quote "Someone's opinion of you need not be your reality" for what you said at 4.23 At 6.27 I pick few words from the book "How to win friends and Influence People" about showing genuine interest in others

I find small talk really tough. Some people seem to make such grand loud conversations out of the most meaningless subjects. How can i learn not to feel 'fake' and therefore anxious, when i talk about meaningless things?
@lauriexwang2 ай бұрын
It’s completely understandable to feel that way about small talk-it can definitely seem challenging, especially when it feels superficial. One approach that might help is to view small talk as a bridge to deeper connections. Instead of focusing on the content, try to focus on the person you're speaking with and see it as a way to ease into more meaningful conversations. It’s okay to keep it light and simple; you're not being fake, just finding common ground. You're not alone in feeling this way, and it's great that you're open to learning how to navigate it better.

Hello, I've been unemployed for a bit in the UK, so my confidence is really low. I do ask open questions, especially about information for interviews and my own personal information, but don't get a reply. What am I doing wrong?

I just can’t seem to give longer answers to questions.
@lauriexwang2 ай бұрын
It can be challenging to provide longer answers, but you’re definitely not alone in feeling this way. Sometimes, it helps to take a moment to think about your response and consider elaborating on your thoughts or adding examples. A conversation is a two way dialogue and it also depends on the person you are speaking to as well.
