Well I have an answer for your questions because non natives when they learn English language they learn everything not just speaking they learn how to pronounce some sounds in the correct ways and also they learn grammar and so on.
@rubencruz26873 жыл бұрын
I think it has to do with something she said: Native speakers usually swallow some sounds. In fact, that is the reason why, in the past years, it was more difficult for me to spot what words native speakers were saying than any non-native speaker. They understand each other even skipping some sounds and it's faster this way, so why not xD. It makes it difficult for non-native English speakers to know what they are saying, though xD

My spoken English leveled up ever since. Now I feel more confident, more at ease, and definitely more open to talking (although I'm an introvert). So yeah! This year I was hired by a company where everyone speaks English. Before that, I wasn't confident speaking English, but now I feel confident speaking English. I made lots of mistakes speaking English for many reasons but the biggest reason was that I was afraid of being judged. So guys, make mistakes and don't worry about being judged, for sure you are gonna improve your fluency in speaking without any translation in your native language, I'm proof of that. If you don't have who to practice with, don't worry you can practice with yourself, just stay steady and everything will be fine.

Tip 3: Start using a dictionary (google translater, as I am using for writing it 😂) whenever you find difficulties in understanding. Tip 4: start writing everything in English (like a sorry letter to your x- girlfriend 😂). Tip 5: start talking with native( but how to make a friend 😅😂 ) speakers on social media like skype Here I would like to add one more tip. Tip 6: start using Grammarly keyboard. Instead of translating unknown words into the native language, I would recommend defining the word in the target language. This should not be too difficult for an intermediate learner and would produce greater benefits.
@juniormacias49603 жыл бұрын
Thanks for pieces of advice. I am an upper intermediate and I partly agree with you. You are totally right when you say the best way to improve your speaking skills and get rid of your native language accent is by shadowing or repeating what natives say. On the other hand, I don't totally agree with you when you say we must translate to our native language when we are reading and we don't understand something, I have always used a monolingual dictionary to look up for the meaning of new words, it not only helps you to understand the meaning of the word, but also helps you to learn new words at the same time. Thanks a million, and I really hope I can step up my game and be an advanced user of the language someday. 😁

I don't know why most non-native KZbinrs offering English studying contents see "speaking like an American" as some kind of ultimate goal. I think being able to say exactly what you mean articulately (which not many can do even in their native tongue) is a lot more important than sounding like an American in popular TV shows.

It's literally impossible to get rid of an accent when you speak a foreign language if you haven't had an opportunity to learn it since you were a child. BUT... It's pretty rude to tell a person who really speaks perfect English or German or whatever that's it's not perfect. IT'S JUST PERFECT from the perspective that it's still stays a foreign language for her, and she's capable of speaking it the way a lot of native speakers can't even dream of! So stay humble and make some compliments from time to time instead of being that snobbish 🙂

@@nientemai7429 … the previous poster was not being rude at all. Someone stated that she spoke perfect English and that person pointed out that she didn’t but, spoke very very good English. @@r.charlesmanning2483 it's just my humble opinion, when someone points out to me that I'm not a native speaker in 4 languages that I speak pretty fluently, and that someone's never been asked to share his/her opinion, especially when it has nothing to do with the situation we're in, I personally feel myself humiliated. Hi Radmila, you know, I don't mind translating, but one technique I learned and used with many of my students was "breaking the mirror". In this case, you want to explore the different possibilities of a word or expression in as many situations as possible. For example, you can use an adjective like "hard", then you can think of possible uses for it, like hard table, hard day, hard working man (which is an adverb, in fact), and so on. You can also explore some techniques, such as strong collocations, fixed or semi-fixed expressions, phrasal verbs, etc. This is just a suggestion. But I loved your video and took many notes, so I can give some of your tips to my students. Thank you for the video.

Hi Rudmila, firstly, as an English teacher and native speaker from the UK, I have to say that your tips are excellent. I have made similar recommendations to some of your tips here. I will share this video with my upper-intermediate level learners. You are obviously a very disciplined at self-study and your motivation to put in the hard yards must have been a key factor in achieving your superb level of fluency and pronunciation in English. If I had heard you speak before knowing about this video, I would have said you were American without a shadow of a doubt. You've probably noticed that I'm using some idiomatic phrases, so how have you approached learning this aspect of English language? Regarding speaking to people who have strong regional accents, this would be a challenge for many native soeakers too. It's all about getting used to the different pronunciation of some vowel sounds and individual words and phrases. English communication is also strongly affected by intonation and stress, which you have absolutely nailed to perfection. In this video. Now here is another question for you, I hope you don't mind. How many hours of practice have you put into studying and improving your English from when you first began to learn English? My guess is that it would probably be around 10,000 hours, depending on a person's mother tongue and efficiency at learning. For example, studying and practising the four language skills of speaking, writing, reading and listening; this requires a lot of practice and repetition. To dedicate 10,000 hours to this could equate to an average of 1.82 hours everyday over 15 years. Many students of English may not appreciate this when they first start out, so the key is having a clear objective to drive you and practise as often as time permits, not just going to English classes or paying for English teachers and/or courses.

Well, a piece of my own experience here : I do remember reading Guitar World in South America. I didn't understand much .... and I wasn't able to read music notation. My delusional hope was that just by reading the magazine I would somehow be able to : 1. improve my English skills and 2. learn how to play the guitar. None of the above. My English skills didn't improve much.... and I didn't learn how to play the guitar. There was simply no method to my madness.... back then.
