Good evening everyone. Dr., can cover crops grow in Sandy clay soil or should I add top soil first before attempting to grow the cover crop? Thanks in advance.

You shouldn’t need top soil unless the “soil “ is lifeless. Grab a fist full. Is it fluffy dry or hard? Add some garden soil if it’s dry or hard. Then add legumes if you are seeking more organic matter in the soil or mustard if you are trying to prevent erosion. Hope that helps! Happy gardening.
