Thank you Ryan, I was putting side spin on my slices and couldn’t stop it until one point in your instruction solved it for me. I was following through to right and not forwards, your ‘walking under the racket’ tip cured it and I now hit drives forward, that keep low on bounce. Superb guide mate. Keep it up.

Brilliant Explanation - like the other series of the forehand and one-handed backhand video explained with the checkpoints. Being in the correct position at the checkpoints is the most crucial thing that can make a world of difference. Thank you Ryan for enlightening us. You are definitely one the best Tennis coaches on KZbin

These are great points, Ryan. One checkpoint that helps me a lot with my BH slice is to step aggressively from heel to toe with my forward foot (right for righties, etc.) in the forward swing to the contact point. In your contact point checkpoint you keep that foot flat likely because your checkpoint here occurs after this foot planting.

I was a little baffled by the slice backhand at first. I watched several videos that stated explicitly and showed the racket face open at contact. However, when I slowed the video way down, I could see the instructor was saying and demonstrating one thing (very open racket face), but using an almost neutral to slightly open racket face at connect when he was actually hitting balls. This made all the difference to get strong, low return. Shockingly, when I questioned this, I received an expletive ridden reply - wow! Glad to have found your videos, they are excellent!

You are a really good coach. I have been playing tennis for the last 65 years, started when I was 12. Now that you know how old I am, you know I have seen tennis evolve. I still play 4 times a week including singles for 2 hours. I find your idea of checkpoints tremendously helpful. I think you are in Philadelphia? My granddaughter is 11 and ranked in under 12. Would love to see you if at all possible. Keep up the good work.

One of the most detailed oriented and knowledgeable trainer out there ...really amazing your way of explaining and cutting into sections all your moves ....but I would have enjoyed even more if all this explanations were accompanied by demonstration on court..so one could really see how ball travels from the contact point into the court ...different contact points with the ball from below knee area..waist area or Above waist (shoulder area ) would really make me understand and memorize completely the mechanics behind each striking zones ....pls pls pls if you can in the future make one video (like part 2 for this video ) in which you demonstrate on court too .thank you so much ..I’ve been following you eagerly and with so much interest.thank you for all that you do for tennis players and fans out there looking to improve anything they can

Ryan, great visual with being able to walk underneath the raised racquet upon follow through! How do I arrange a lesson with you that my husband purchased for me almost a year ago after hearing me rave about your videos : )
@goggleboy24643 жыл бұрын
You gain a lot more control and bite on the ball by following through across your body. The more slice the more action and the more skid which makes it harder to deal with. If u master the straight follow through give the across your body follow through a try

Even that i'm not perfict in English , i understand what you mean. That improves your explaining is very good. I have a question .😊 Now i have watched two vedios about backhand topspin and backhand slice , the question is when do we use each of them , i mean when the against player strike topspin, i strike topspin too oder what things will determine which strike i must use ?
@angelaoneill60733 жыл бұрын
Thanks for great video. This looks like a great Ken Rosewall backhand. I thought that hitting the ball like this would give the ball a slight underspin and I'd call this an underpsin backhand rather than a slice backhand - but you are the expert, not me!. I thought that on a slice backhand the racket head would still be travelling downward at the point of contact and that would impart a lot of backspin. Have I got this wrong?
@harryzhu47102 жыл бұрын
Very good! Just a question: if the ball is coming higher like as your heart, what should I do?

Only wish you’d explain how this technique creates slice ie square on hitting the ball

The racket is traveling slightly down toward contact then comes back up again. Like hitting a 1 iron.

I have no idea but this is the shot I struggle the most with. The ball just floats and has no depth.
@2MinuteTennis3 жыл бұрын
Try changing your grip farther so the racket is flatter against the back of the ball at contact. When the ball floats the way you’re talking about it’s because the racket is too open at contact. Open means facing up. The racket on a slice backhand is nearly vertical at contact. Like a wall. Good luck!!

It looks like you gonna hit a flat shot with this kind of racquet face and "smileys " movement. Withou a proper downwards movement against the face of the ball I don't see how you produce The backspin on the ball.
@goggleboy24643 жыл бұрын
Swing high to low and you'll make slice. I'd try following through the way he showed but also try across your body
