I bought my first surfskate a few days ago. Absolute beginner at 41 years. Of course, I got a few tips on the Internet for starters. Subsequently, I must say that these were not really conducive and gave me a wrong idea of the process. Today I watched YOUR video several times today before my 3rd day of training and it helped me so much. I really had fun and got more confidence on the baord. There are many good skaters, but not everyone is a good teacher. Thanks for your great videos! Hope to See more from you.

And thank you so much for the amazing comment- this is exactly why I do this and love doing it and I appreciate your feedback. Feel free to sent my way any questions, as specific or general, or even videos of yourself skating... More surfskate coming soon for sure!

@@ALLaBOARDvideos thanks one thing that confuses me is the stance. I’ve tried other board sports such as freeline skates, caster skates (ripstick), skate cycle, orbit wheels, and similar devices where it seems easier to pump on a sideways stance. I’m confused why surfskating uses an open stance facing the nose of the board. Is it because the motion comes from the twisting of the core as opposed to the pushing of the legs?
@ALLaBOARDvideos
@ALLaBOARDvideos Жыл бұрын
@@360vroomers well, surfskate is a tool to help practice surfing. In surfing we try to keep forward facing position, and one of the main reasons is that your stirring wheel is the back foot, above the fins. So, you want the knee of the back foot to lean forward, down inside between the feet, and not face outside which will limit the rotation of the body. In addition, if both knees face outside then we are more likely to bend our upper body, we'll have no rotation and no energy for turning, and we're more likely to fall forward. Think about generating speed on the surfskate - the hands need to more together toward the direction you're moving, and if you're standing sideways you can't do that. Hope I'm making sense.

@@s0b0lev I think speed generation is the hardest. Once you get that the rest becomes easier. It’s the hands but as you saw in the video it’s mostly the compression and the twist in upper body. @ALLaBOARDvideos
@ALLaBOARDvideos Жыл бұрын
It would be a bit hard for me to recommend without knowing your height... but still, if you're getting this to improve surfing you want to think about your goals. Are you aiming to stick to a soft board, or long or fun shapes, or, are you aiming to progress to shortboards. without knowing your measurements, i would say this: The 32" has a wider base so it's great for cruising and would be great to generate speed and practice basic carving. the 31" would give you a bit more versatility; you can still generate speed and carve, but will also enable you better to learn more advance maneuvers such as snaps. what's your height, and goals in surfing?

hello, you are magical and dynamic. Please, I started surfing a year and a half ago and I want to start surfskating to improve. for my first karver skateboard, which is better to start with, the K7 with spring or the sx without spring? thank you and excuse my English, I am from Morocco and I add, I am 63 and a half years old
@ALLaBOARDvideos
@ALLaBOARDvideos 7 ай бұрын
Hi @wadifmohamed , thank you so much - you are very sweet. If you are surfing, and feel somewhat confident on a surfskate, and you want a Carver board, I would go with the C7. Having both lateral and leaning movements, both of which you can adjust and surely the more "surfy" out of the two. However, consider that there are other surfskates brands out there; I'm actually currently on the Yow, which I find much surfier than the carver. However, that also comes with less stability for beginners. So, it depends on your comfort levels. If there are surfshops in your area that you can try them you will feel the difference immediately. They are both very common in most shops. Your English is great- I'm actually moving to Portugal, so we are going to be neighbors :) Super impressed- 63 young! woohoo!

Awesome video, May i ask what is your advice on Truck tension (i have a carver with cx trucks) what is your recommendation for rear and front Truck tension set up to do easy long distance pumping :) thank you
@ALLaBOARDvideos
@ALLaBOARDvideos 2 жыл бұрын
Well that’s a tough one. It depends what you do and what board you have. If you watch my surfskate comparison with carver board I mention that issue. kzbin.info/www/bejne/oaSodqmFndGcr7M In general I’ll say that- when I practice surfing I personally like looser trucks as my swelltech is. The carver I would loosen more than normal but that’s just my preference . If I did longer distance then I would keep it on the tighter side so you get more push back and less tilt. But don’t tighten too much because these boards are meant to have some looseness to them and they won’t pump properly otherwise. It know it’s so general- my best advice to you is take a key with you. Go out and ride and enjoy trying. Try to loosen and ride a bit then tighter and ride a bit. Eventually you’ll start feeling the differences and find your favorite setting. Hope they helps!

Hey! Happy to help. I would say the 30-31 inch sounds about right. I can’t talk much about Smoothstar since I’ve never tried it. I’m just waiting for a Yow myself and I think they’re awesome. I can only say that if you ever plan to get into the park And work on some walls go with the Yow. Yow has two types of trucks, S4 and S5, generally, S4 for people under 50 kg and S5 for above. Also, make sure you get a board that has medium to high concave (that shape of the actual board). That might feel a bit weird at first but it’s gonna help with the grip and a good foot position. Hi, again. I went out today on my new board and tried to remember everything from your video. I fell flat on my back my third attempt...ouch! Anyway, you're videos are very helpful. One question for you, are your feet evenly weighted on the board, or do you shift weight from front to back foot depending on which way you're turning. Sorry for the dumb question, but I'm a newbie at this point. I just keep slowing down instead of speeding up. 😞
@ALLaBOARDvideos
@ALLaBOARDvideos 2 жыл бұрын
Not a dumb question at all. In fact it’s great you’re even noticing and thinking about it. During movement I always shift weight depending on what I do. Certain maneuvers need more weight front or back. If you fell back then most likely you have too much weight on the back truck. Think about this this way- when you surf you’re feet are like car pedals. Weight on front you’ll speed up more (so important when you get in the wave for example). Weight back will slow you down. I would say that during speed generation keep more weight on the front foot. How much it’s hard to say- depends on your speed and the type of board you’re riding. But generally a bit more weight forward should help you. One more thing- when you get out of every small turn (generating speed is like many small turns!) then use your front ankle to push the board forward a bit. Not aggressively but just a little to give the front truck a mild “push”.
@rickpotter5015
@rickpotter5015 2 жыл бұрын
@@ALLaBOARDvideos OMG... that makes so much sense. Thank you so much! I've been putting my most of my weight on my back truck, that explains a lot. Hi! haha that's a good question- well, I consider myself and intermediate. I've been surfing for about 4 years, surfing a 5'6 shortboard at the moment. Unfortunately I don't live close to the beach, it's about an hour drive, so I don't surf as much as I would like these days. The surfskate for me is crucial for my progression- I arrive to my sessions more in shape but also with the movement already practiced in my head and practiced in my body. It's not exactly the same when you're in water and have to paddle hard for every opportunity, but at least I can think and identify my mistakes when I work on my speed generation, cutbacks, and other maneuvers. Feel free to hit me back with any other questions - happy to answer :)
