This class in a nut shell: tennis is played with the feet... The hand is just an extension of our upper body, but the body placement is the most important

All about footwork. Swing is the least important.

This is a excellent video for players to understand different heights of ball and to practice the same.Perfect analysis and presentation..👍👍

Great analysis as usual. At 60, I have now become a baseline hugger otherwise it always is a struggle to reach to shorter and slower balls, which my mainly older opponents hit more often than fast deep or spinning drives. Of course this has limitations when I am playing a younger and better player and sometimes I do move back if such an opponent doesn’t realise that he can outplay me by using short angles or drop shops.

Yes, always adapt to the situation and opponent when it comes to position behind the baseline.

Tomas, I am new to tennis (52 years old, 3.0-3.5). I had trouble with what you describe as a low contact point with the ball falling, but because I heard you say in another video that this is your easiest stroke, I try now to wait for the ball to fall to practice it more. I see that moving forward reduces those opportunities, particularly when I am near the baseline. Your suggestions in this video and others are always very logical and reasonable. Thank you for sharing what you know.

Thanks Tomaz. Helpful video. As it turns out I crowd the baseline hence the discomfort when receiving a high or short ball.

Hey, i think i understand the vidio and the idea about beeing flexible and able to adjust to situations. Also i try different shots by my selfe a lot, especialy on warming up. But, i realy struggle in match situation making the desisions... where i wanna stay, how i wanna hit the ball, why i wanna and whats the bennefit of it. Maybe u can explain in a other vidio something about the reasons to make desisions about hit high or low. thank u very mutch!!

Hi Tomaz, as I'm Portuguese, I don't speak English perfectly. This is because I had doubts regarding this video: is the objective to stay more or less in the same position behind the baseline and then hit the various types of ball / trajectory (low, high medium) maintaining the position? Or the opposite: retreat, advance depending on the height of the ball we receive? Thanks

Hi Rui, I am suggesting for free hitting session to stay more or less at the same distance from the baseline so that you receive many different balls at different heights and trajectories so that you can practice them. In matches you will need to adjust and move more around, but once you have the skills of handling balls at any height and trajectory, you will move MUCH LESS and much more economically in matches and conserve much more energy.

Ha! I had just tried taking the ball early, by standing on the base line, it was so much more fun!! and really improved my game. Then I see this and you tell me i need to go further back , Arhhhh 😂

You must have played a poor player to be able to stay close to the line and hit the ball well. So your opponent must have been playing slow and short. You couldn't stay close to the line most of the time playing a 4.5+ player, you would mishit more than half of the shots. My point is that you need to adapt. You need to see what kind of balls you're receiving and adjust to them. It's all about having enough time to see the ball well after the bounce and hit it clean. All this movement and positioning is all about time.

@@meditationman415 I actually finally hit with someone who was at least 4.0, maybe 4.5, and Tomas is right, the balls came relatively fast, deep, and had some weight behind them, which is what allowed me to swing fully and hit with effort. It was GREAT, and finally felt right. I wish my ball machine could imitate that, but it's a Swinger and it can't produce the kind of shot that my opponent was sending my way.

@@ivanhannel For me, positioning/being prepared has helped me more than any other part of my game. I feel more engaged, its a great feeling
