If you’re like me and you repeat this work out a lot (or daily) here’s a handy timestamp: 6:34 is after the intro if you’ve already watched it a few times and just want to start into the exercise and follow along :) Thank you for making these, they’re helping me train up my strength between injuries when I have to take weeks off from class. I’m laser removing a tattoo so I have to take 3 weeks off at a time sometimes because my foot is so injured and can’t point but this work out helps me keep a little turn out so I don’t feel completely exhausted and depleted when I finally go back! ❤️ I’m reconnecting with my love as an adult after some really hard life incidents forced me to walk away from professional dancing in my first year working and now at 21 I’m trying to build up strength to try to dance again after a couple years off intense training and it can feel so intimidating so having exercisss to do at home can be a way to get the foot back in the water so to say 😂

I’m a karate black belt and have been on an almost decade long journey towards greater flexibility, mobility and form. I’ve always felt like dancers knew something we don’t. I think these will help me tremendously so thank you!
@anissahenrichs99454 жыл бұрын
This helped me learn the difference between tucking and jamming. In my studio our teacher says to tuck our booty under and I was always overdoing it to the point of it not being sustainable, now I’m “tucking” properly. She says tuck to get us to engage our muscles not jam
@danimolusco2 жыл бұрын
I'm not a dancer but I'm hypermobile and have been having trouble with glute weakness and unstable hips, and this helped so much, especially the exercise before the rond de jambe, i hadn't felt that kind of activation from any other exercises

I’ve been doing this for 5 days straight now and I’m feeling much stronger

Your explanations are so thorough. What you said about the turnout, my 1st teacher said: heart shape buttock and "spiraling" the muscles, but your explanation is more accurate. NO JAMMING. This is a perfect complement between classes.

When you said don't ever let anyone step on you for a better stretch, I totally understood that. When I was a kid (and not even yet a dancer) I was once stretching in butterfly and I asked my sister to slowly and gently press my knees down for me. She thought it would be hilarious to suddenly and unexpectedly jam my knees down to the floor for a laugh. It was horrifically painful. Luckily I didn't get injured.

THANK YOU!!! I wish I or my parents could have advocated for me better when I was a young gymnast. They sat on us, stepped on us, stood on us (with shoes on). If we cried, they’d push harder. There were times I couldn’t lift my legs after being overstretched. I ended up with severe disc damage in my low back from being stretched this way. I’m so glad you emphasized not allowing someone else to push you into overstretching. Thank you for being a voice for younger people.

I have always struggled with my turnout as a dancer, right now, I´ve got quite a flexible turnout and I am so grateful for that, but the strenght is obviously a little lacking. Loved this video! Just what I needed to thoroughly work on my turn out in quarantine.

Thank you for mentioning the having people step on you in stretches. It really bothers me that there are extremely popular stretching videos on youtube for dancers that advocate having someone stand on you in a butterfly. It's so unsafe! And young dancers who don't know any better are the ones who will see that

This really saved me a lot cause I have been struggling with my turnout especially in my 5th position. But I do agree that it is best to use your natural body strength without force .I don't know if it's possible or not but will there be a Barre class or centre class for artistry ?
@madeline22825 жыл бұрын
i think her barre for arms and back would be a good one to work on artistry since it has the most complicated port de bras. if you do the trick (i think i actually got this from katie as well) of pretending to be a character taking barre, that's another way to incorporate artistry. I pretend I'm the different dancers of Dance Academy when I get bored lol, and I try to imitate their dancing style (kat, tara, abigail, etc)
