I bet the value expressed in milliseconds is not the latency, but the frame interval. It is not the same. Note that the frame interval equals roughly 1 / FPS.

Your point is valid. Thank you for pointing this out. But I think the data displayed still leads us to the same conclusion.
@marcinsawicz59622 жыл бұрын
@@activex7327 But it is! The slight inaccuracy derives from the fact that FPS is averaged from a bunch of last frames and the frame interval is just a measurement at the moment of display. In the case of DLSS 3 the latency for sure is higher since the GPU needs 2 last frames for the generation of one extra one in between.

I'm now doing 4k on a 240Hz monitor so I'm more interested in whether the upgrade is worth it. I'm sure it will be better, but how much better? It isn't about frame rate per se so much as how much I can turn on the eye candy while maintaining it.

I got a 4090 and 13900K on 4K, and it's a fantastic experience with DLSS3 FG + TAA. I don't use Torbii eye tracker so my cockpit viewpoint doesn't move, and so I don't get the flickering at seen in 7:45. I don't like using DLSS2 SS as the numbers in the glass cockpit will show motion blur (see 12:45, the airspeed indicator on the left MFD). And yes the 4090 will just coast along even at 4K as the game is heavily CPU bound, and adding fake frames doesn't put much pressure on the GPU.

Just pointing out what is being displayed there isn't your latency, it's your frametime. Latency is another whole thing. For example you have your game running at 60fps, so a 16.67 frame time. If you make an input during the compilation of 1 frame, say 8 ms in, then it won't be displayed until the completion of the next frame, which is a ~24-25ms (roughly 40 perceived fps). That's also why the latency can seem erratic during reprojection or DLSS 3.0's frame injections. Say due to DLSS you're getting 100fps, so a 10ms screen time, if you put an input in during one of the fake frames then you can have as little as a 10ms latency between the input and the frame where you see your input, meanwhile if you put in an input during a real frame then you have to go through the injection of a fake frame then the generation of a new real frame (so at least 20ms) on top of whatever time there was left in the real frame where you made the input which means you're going between 10 and 30ms input delays and while none of those delays are massive the variation is what makes it noticable.

I got a 4090 and just booted up SU11 (Wasn't interested in joining the Beta to get frame generation earlier) and I can easily say that for MSFS, DLSS3 Frame Generation is an absolute game changer. If you're reading this, DLSS3 FG is truly a miracle tech for MSFS. The only issues I have are some minor tearing issues with no Vsync (according to Digital Foundry FG has issues with Vsync) and an MSFS game engine bug with DX12 Beta (DX12 must be on for FG) where the ground texture occasionally disappears. Also note that the flickering in 7:45 are caused by camera movements with the Torbii eye tracker, with a static camera viewpoint the flickering doesn't happen.

A 10ms latency when viewing frame-doubled content at ~90 FPS is.... physically impossible. : ) I'm sure you've already figured this out, but I'm guessing that your Afterburner(?) utility is being confused by the frame doubling and is displaying the latency as if the sim was actually running at 90 FPS. Of course, the sim is *really* running at about 45 FPS before the frame-doubling magic happens, and thus your 'felt' latency is going to be in the neighborhood of 22ms. Or maybe 44ms, since the card is waiting for one additional frame to arrive. Which, in a flight sim, is likely fine! Thanks for the video. My immediate reaction when hearing about DLSS 3 was, "That's probably going to be terrible for shooters, but fantastic for flight sims and racing games!"

I'm sorry to point out that you didn't achieve the goal of your video to clear up misconceptions. You didn't measure "latency". You presented a lot of good data on the screen but your conclusions regarding latency were not correct because of the misinterpretation of the data. To explain, the GPU "ms" measurements you showed are actually "milliseconds-per-frame" which is a measure of how many milliseconds it takes to generate 1 frame. This is not latency. This is the inverse of the fps (frames-per-second) values shown. Notice one is milliseconds-per-frame versus frames-per-second. That's an inverse with a factor of 1000 to account for milliseconds versus seconds. The "latency" that you were trying to measure is a measurement of the time it takes from when you make an input with your controller to when that input is actualized in the game. I don't know of any measurement tool that can give you that value. I've seen people use a high speed camera to make a video of their gameplay. Then they go back to the video and physically count the frames from when they make a controller input until it's registered on screen. And if you know the framerate you can convert the number of frames you've counted to a time value for the latency.
@SimHangerFS2 жыл бұрын
I believe how I presented the data is representative enough to make my point. The only app to measure true latency is Capframex that I am aware of.

You don't have to guess. Just run MSI Afterburner to show some numbers on the screen. If your GPU usage is < 95%, then the game is bottlenecked by the CPU, like in all tests in this movie. Don't be confused by the low CPU usage. The game utilizes only several threads (out of 20 in this CPU), so the usage is in the range 20-25%, but this is actually the limit here.

You are very much CPU bound in these tests, especially given the resolution you used. For this for example between DLSS and TAA there was no difference in FPS, since the factor is solely the CPU. Latency decreases because even if interpolated frames are there the CPU is a less bottleneck than before.
@Nareimooncatt2 жыл бұрын
When testing the control of TAA and no frame generation, your graphics card was nowhere near maxed out. Your CPU usage looked low, but that was likely the total usage across all cores. Chances are you were CPU bound by one or two cores being maxed out. I know there are some settings in the sim that drastically increase CPU usage. It would be interesting to see what a little fine tuning of the settings would get you if you removed the CPU bottleneck. Not sure I'd actually get one of the new 4000 series cards, but I prefer to see benchmarks with native performance (I.e. No DLSS or frame generation).

@SimHangerFS2 жыл бұрын
DLSS3 is not VR compatible.
@GunSlinger2212 жыл бұрын
I would have to disagree with you on your conclusions regarding latency. You really did not perform an adequate test regarding this subject. Further more frame rates are a subjective subject due to a persons vision, frame rates of more the 50 are not detected by the human eye. If your using VR then the 4090 is a great choice, however during the summer months I hope you have AC, this wattage on this card is like cranking out a small space heater.
@SimHangerFS2 жыл бұрын
Further tests has shown latency effectively doubled in DLSS3 on average in MSFS, however, because it is a flightsim, if you can detect an additional 12ms your a better man than me.
@deloford Жыл бұрын
Youre wrong on frame detection, people can defintely detect higher FPS than 50fps. There are plenty of tests that show this.

I’m going to jump on to say, even though I appreciate all the content for improving VR experience, I think it’s pretty disgusting that KZbinrs are focusing attention on what I think is the biggest unfair practice these graphics card makers and the gaming industry are doing. Many of us have 3080 and 3090 cards, pinnacles of the 30 series, which by all standard should be running this game with ease; yet, we are being sold in the idea that we should go to 40 series for better experience. I think it is bull. With the 49 series, we will then need faster CPU and then better PSU, and so on. This is strategy for these folks to make more money. Considering the hype around SU-10 and DLSS 2 before release; which btw, I can still barely hit 49 frames on high settings in VR with version 2 on quality. They aren’t optimizing the game to work without constant upgrading of hardware. I am disappointed in every way.
@speedbird83262 жыл бұрын
I tend to agree. The game is clearly CPU bound and unless Asobo have a major breakthrough with the main thread code, or if they re write the code to make it truly multi-core, you will have to wait until there is a 10 GHz 20900k on the market - in about 15 years time ! I have a 4090 and a 10900k @ 5.0 GHz in SU11 beta using frame generation and with the standard aircraft I am at about 110-120 fps in most situations. However, with the A32NX, at say EDDF I’m at around 60 fps during takeoff with ultra settings and about 100 fps in the cockpit in the cruise and 120 fps in the external view in the cruise. I have a 120 fps monitor. Terrain LOD is still the biggest fps killer.

Hi, whilst I may share many of your views personally, as a content creator, focused on MSFS I feel it is necessary to bring you such content so you can make your own personal judgements and decisions regarding new technology and products. Thanks for commenting. 👍

@@SimHangerFS I appreciate it. I still enjoy, and get a lot of useful recommendations from these content. As a consumer perspective, and not a gamer, the business practice is quite loud and clear. How could they be pushing DLSS 3, when DLSS 2 was release less than a month ago with little improvement to many, and with more learning to do on all our parts? Moving on to next just feels like a kick in the butt. I will not even consider a 40 series card until I know it will ensure my enjoyment of VR fir at least 5 years.

DLSS3 does indeed work very well for MSFS with frame generation as the latency (between inputs and screen output) is almost irrelevant. I'm currently CPU bound at 4K on my OC 10900K and 4090 until the 13900K 8Pack OC bundle arrives from OCUK. Sorry for hitting the wrong 'vote button' first - Big fingers 😢
@Roy887722 жыл бұрын
Actually frame generator is independent from DLSS so talking about it and using name DLSS 3 is technically incorrect. Nvidia using marketing like always confusing customers. More so DLSS 2 and 3 are the same. It's frame generator or let's be straight, frame interpolation is the new technology that NV introduce with GF 4xxx. Let's see the point that you can switch on frame interpolation with out DLSS. So they are two different things.
@SimHangerFS2 жыл бұрын
I beg to differ, they are much the smal thing. It is not DLSS as the Frame Generation function excludes the lower res image render & upscaling aspect .

Isn't it true that the human eye doesn't see more than 30-35 fps? I get 30-35 fps, and no stutters. Unless I'm missing something, my experience is great. 50+ fps and up, I don't see the need. Maybe with VR. Then absolutely.

Yesterday I bought a Zotac Gaming GeForce RTX 4090 AMP Extreme AIRO for a fair price (€2200) in the Netherlands. Initially I wanted to go for Asus or MSI but they are hard to get. Zotac is less known and consequently easier to get I think. I red good things about them on Reddit. I wish you succes!

For people with too much time and money?! I shouldn't care at all. It's absolute nonsense to buy a 4090 now, especially at these exorbitant prices. The 3000 series meanwhile shows excellent frame rates in the MSFS range from the 3070 onwards. It always takes some time for the drivers to get the true potential out of a graphics card. It will be the same with the new generation. Those who can wait have a clear advantage. I will remain loyal to my 3080ti and can safely wait another few years.

I guess you overestimate DLSS3 , you cant react faster with it , you d o n t have a faster response Time , why , its simply added Frames , collision detection is made by the Game Engine , not DLSS3 , you dont hit enemys faster , you dont see them earlier , you cant react faster because all of this is made by the Game engine . It increases the FPS counter , thats all, at most it looks a bit smoother but only on low motions but not at fast pace action . I am still sceptical ... , for me its basically fake FPS ... , doubble the FPS and the ms Time halves , as simple as it is , as i said , you dont have a faster response Time , you cant react faster , the only benefit may be if you have 25 FPS and in slow moving scenes it smoothes the moves ( with artifacts , very likely )
@SimHangerFS2 жыл бұрын
I think you missed the point. You’r correct if in a fast paced game, but in a simulation an extra 10ms makes no difference…just smoother game play.

Yes you would get better performance, but it is a fine balance between cost and benefit. New GPU’s have a bigger buffer/cache so can process faster.
