Happy that new generation are enthusiastic about farming and land .. local chickens are best if they are kept in the cage for 5 days after hatching and free ranged in the outdoor for minerals n protein n exercise . Feeding them early morning in their cage and making them roam free when the sun is hot enough... Till they are a month.

Very nice bro, keep up the good work. I stay in a town however the joy of raising chicken is just of a different level so i keep a few few though enclosed. Two enclosures which are big enough . I have experimented and found that seperating the chicks too early from the mother is not good for both the mother and the chicks. It is better to find ways to without much problem raise them together at least for some time for their overall health. Even if we feel that the chickens are being able to survive on their own after seperation, it has been seen that as they grow they don't do too well and infact mortality rate too increaces. For the mother too laying eggs too early hampers her heath and so quality of chicks hatched to not strong enough. Just sharing what i experienced.

@Asula-v4z thank you for your wonderful insights. Similar to what you have so eloquently narrated I have been thinking about this issue of early chicks separation and your comment has just triggered me to find early solution for the problem which is narrated below, I have also noticed that the hens usually lays much lesser eggs if the chicks get seperated too early from their mother. Conversely, in an environment like my place where it is either raining or temperatures are dropping, I have to wait for the chicks to feather up well which takes around 30 days(Earlier I use to keep them in coop for around 18 days along with their mother and let them loose together) before I can free range them and during those developmental stages the mother hen usually gets unhealthy if kept in coops for extended periods, let's say more than 20 days. So by the time I release the chicks their mother fails to recognise her chicks and thus any suggestions on balancing this issue and keeping the chicks and that of the mother healthy would be most welcome.

@@kezhothitokeyho8563 you are talking to an enthusiast so here it goes😅... My chicken enclosure is made by welding iron and it is sufficiently big so i can walk in too. The iron frame is covered with that mesh wire with plastic coating, inside there is an upper chamber for roosting with proper stairs provided.ON the lower part of the main entry door is another small door which is used whenever I want to put in scraps without actually entering. Feeding is done like yours but i give a lot of vegetables, two times a day always... If possible more than that too. Squash leaves, chives, dandelion leaves and some more weeds during summer. During winter mustard leaves, bok choi... In short whatever in season. Cutting the vegetables finely for the baby chicks and as they grow we can chop a little roughly. Another thing that i think helps is when they have just hatched and in their first week good to start with something soft like boiled eggs... Just one egg chopped into small pieces to build their immunity, once a day. Mind you mother hen will just feed the chicks and not eat herself but give her time and everything she'll start taking care of herself too. Of late I allow the mother hen to just take her own time to wean her chicks... Happier and healthier mother, chicks and future chicks... Perhaps all we need to do is trust mother nature more😊One month together like this in the coop and release for free ranging... The chicks become quite strong and big by this time.
